my neighbor has an older cub cadet with a 14hp v twin. he says its been sitting for about a year and will let me have the whole thing for $50.00. could this be a good buy to build an offroad go cart. will it work with a 1" centrifugal clutch? any suggestions? thanks everyone

I'm not sure a centrifugal clutch is up to the kind of pounding that a 16-horse on an offroad kart's gonna produce. Since you're getting the engine incredibly cheap, maybe shop for a torque convertor?

And I would definately jump on the deal, I'm sure you'll find several parts useful...

hello yea its a 14hp v twin horizontal shaft. at first i thought that it could not be one since its on a riding lawn mower but i looked under the hood and sure enough its horizontal shaft. i have a comet 30 series 3/4 bore. could I use the driven part and just buy a 1" bore driver clutch? thanks to all who replied

30 series are only meant for up to 8 hp, but comet under rate their tq so you may be ok. if not the better option would be a 40, or 44 series.

if ur looking to snag s big opposed engine or a v twin ohv engine look in some newer bigger garden tractors. they also may have a peerless 820 transaxle which= god in mower racing

hey i just checked on that cub cudet with the horizontal v-twin.. turns out the motor is stuck. is it possible to get it to unfreeze. these motors are really expensive and if there is an easy way i could fix it then i think it might be worth the trouble. someone told me that if you remove spark plug and pour wd-40 in the hole let it sit overnight and then the next day move the crank back and forth, this will unfreeze. any comments? suggestions? really need to figure this out

It depends on how bad its seized, some engines you can just get a breaker bar on the flywheel and un-seize them, some can be so bad that even if you can unstick them they will never turn over right, or have good compression (warped cylinder). Its fairly hard to seize a mower engine if there oil in it. Go over there take off the shrouds, and check if there clogged with grass and dirt, next check if there is any oil in it, if the shrouds aren't badly clogged and there is oil in it, theres a fairly good chance its just rusted stuck, which shouldn't be hard to un-seize.

check the coil!! i found that alot of ppl. bring me mowers they say are locked up! but when i tear into it and i see the coil is resting on the flywheel! or you can take the heads off to see if (worse case) it could be a busted rod!, or if there is deep groves in the cylinder walls, best bet it could be a seized piston! i have a briggs 18hp twin someone gave me he said it's junk locked up that i could salvage parts off of it! when i was tearing it down i noticed a mouse nest on one cylinder right around the starter! the mice pissed all over the starter rusted it all up! because it sat so long! after i removed the starter because the starter pinon gear was all the way up! causing the engine to seam like it was locked up when it really was'nt! after all that the engine was spinning free! so i got a new starter! to make a long story short it's now in my mower i use all the time! best of luck!!

thanks for replies

hello. i will see what i can do. he says he'll take 50 bucks for the whole mower so i might try to make him an offer. i have only taken the side cover off and really have not inspected them closely. i now know its cub cadet 1440. really big looking axle. he also has two older snappers. one of them is pull start and turns over easy even though its been sitting for a while. the other one he was mowing with about a year ago, it is electric start and looks crappy but he says it works. this one also turns over. he will take 70 dollars for both of them. i know this is a different topic but is this a good deal? if i can't use them for mowing can i use some parts for a potential go kart? let me know what yall think. thanks
