I have a (mid 70s) 8hp briggs that i did a complete rebuild on. that i would like to put on my go-kart only problem is the starter quit, (with no pull start)!! and for some reason i seam to have a starter that i can't find on regular 8 hp briggs, ring gear requires an 18 tooth starter pinion gear and the more common pinion gear is 14 tooth. i found one starter on www.partstree.com for 269.00 not counting shipping. i really don't want to go this route. The original starter is a American Bosch part# SMH-12-A11 and the 8hp model & type #s is 190407-0725-01 code# 7203131! i've contacted Briggs&Strattons cust. service they were'nt much help! Telling me i need to give more info, i gave them every part # i had. and that they were unable to help me:censored:! I have a new briggs starter that has a 14 tooth starter gear, does anyone know if and where i could find a replacement 18 tooth pinion gear! I can't seam to find just the gear anywhere!:mad2: I need to do some finishing touches to my home made frame and then i'm ready to mount the engine! i posted some pics on my public profile! as you should know without the starter it's just something to look at, at this point in time! plus $250.00 in a rebuilt engine i can'nt start!

Take the starter to a starter and alternator shop, chances are they can fix it for a LOT less than $260,
