13hp with torque converter problems

I have a 13 hp engine with a torque converter. the chain kept making a weird noise, so I looked and the sprockets were not aligned, so I aligned them with a plum bob. and now the torque converter rubs the chain, and when the chain is off it will rub the sprocket. I really have no idea what to do. any ideas?

in those pictures they are not aligned because the chain would rub the TC, the master link snapped off for the 5th time so i just left it off.

i would add thin bearing ring/spacer behind the sprocket to push everything out evenly and keep your spacing. or try and adjust your jackshaft slightly left towards the TC side of engine by way of loosening that locking nut on the end to give you some extra clearance.

yes. quite a few... so if I take off the bolt on the TC do
I have to torque get it back to specific pounds? these TC's are new to me.

You just have to tighten it enough. There is no specific torque that it needs to be tightened to

Not a fan of that concept, but the chain should indeed run free.
I even doubt it's a TC issue at all to be honest.

Do you happen to have one of those cheap laser levels at home?
(some recent home renovations and a $6 line laser to level pictures or tiles?)

Since my best guess is that your engine itself is slightly tilted to one side,
which in turn tilts the TC backplate slightly and of course the sprocket...
and that could cause the chain to rub .. either on the backplate or the driven itself.

It certainly looks tilted on the third pic.. but that can be caused by the camera;

so a laser level can verify it's right angle in regards to the axle sprocket, which is terribly hard to do with a bubble level and some straight edges and angles.

If you don't, then you can try the following,
adjust the axle sprocket to as close to ideal as possible inline with the TC sprocket (chain installed);
now loosen the engine bolts correct the alignment.
or -of course- go to your hardware store and buy one (you want a magnetic base and a 90° turnable lens.. should cost you no more than maybe 10 bucks .. I got mine off ebay for less than 6)

lets say the motor is not leveled. could I just put two washers on the left side to level it? or is it a bit more complicated?

I kinda like the washer idea, it seems simple enough, I really just want something that's gonna get me riding by 7 tonight. LOL. I bought this about a week ago, when I test rode it, nothing was wrong. NOTHING. it's driving me crazy! what could of happened in that week?!? I rode it for maybe an hour. my lord I'm so impatient I just want to get it going.

okay so I used a plum bob, and it's definitely slanted. a friend of mine thinks the guy who build this did not square the mounting holes, but honestly I have no idea.
