I pulled out my old manco dingo that was sitting in my parents shed... Does anyone know if the 13hp predator will work with the stock torque converter on the dingo? Are the shaft diameters the same? My cart is close to 20 years old now (time flies) and it seems the mice got to the wires on the 5hp B&S motor. I'm thinking to either clean it up and fix the motor and remove the govena or see about picking up a predator and do it up a little.

Next time, please start a new thread so I don't have to move your post...

If the stock engine is the 5hp B&S then, no, the TC won't fit a 13hp predator; the 5hp B&S has a 3/4" PTO shaft whereas the predator has a 1" shaft. It should work fine with a 212cc Predator though...

Thanks, I thought it was kind of related to the predator talk and was hoping to look more on the forums before starting a thread. Thanks though. Are there torque converters with a 1" ID that would work with the 13hp predator and the dingo? Also do you know of what's out there for my 5hp Briggs? I've found plenty of stuff for the honda/clones/tec and even Briggs animal, but not finding much for the 1352 that I have. Or are all Briggs stuff interchangeable?

Predator gas tank will hit the seat. I've tried it. Fix the briggs flathead?

Take some pics. There are a few models of dingos out there

Which predator did you try? I'm inclining to fix the briggs and go a little nuts with it if I'm looking to replace it anyway, might as well learn and if to goes it goes... but from the basic google searching I've done, I'm having a hard time finding performance parts for my engine. I found for the Briggs animal and honda, etc, any help on links for performance parts? I already need a new magneto because they chewed thorugh the spark plug wire. If I go the predator route, I want to go with the 13hp and mod that out but that would be bigger bucks over all and maybe a little harder with the dimensions especially the drive shaft... I would think a possible solution for the gas tank is to relocate it somehow?

Everyone that replied has good answers. I'm just going go throw this out there. I actually put a 13 hp honda on my dingo. I had to custom fab the jackshaft and reinforce the motor mount area. This will require welding and about $300 worth of parts/metal (not including the engine).

Warning: the vid is kind of boring but it shows my kart with the engine on it.

Your briggs engine magneto is not that expensive either.

Edit: I just read your intro post. Landuse pretty much said the same thing. Sorry for being redundant. It sounded like your on a budget, so let me put it this way:

1) spend $20 on a used, or $35 on a new coil. $2-3 on new wire for a kill switch. Those are the only wires you need so max $40 investment.

OR

2) $180 on a 40 series torque converter, $40 on a belt. Custom fab yourself a plate and jackshaft. New high tensile strength chain to handle the extra load. So roughly $300 and a welder/metal cutting tools.

It's a question of if I want to go all our or not. But seeing that dingo wheelie, your daughter looks scared and in reality, I'm not sure I want my dingo to wheelie, spin wheels yes, possibly flip it self onto me no. I'm probably the only one that's gonna ride it, I'm 33 and had it since I was 14 and cracked 2 ribs and severed the nerve in my tooth at 14 or 15 on it, hence why I'm not comfortable letting others drive.

I was also hoping the 13hp would just drop in and just mod the motor..

I just have the kart geared very low (33mph). It wouldn't do wheelies if I had it geared to go 40 or 45. The tires are too big to spin out. Too knobby to do that in dirt either (which is a good thing)

Definitely a smart choice to keep the briggs and fix it up. :) it will go 35 mph stock and have decent torque. (That is if you can get your torque converter cleaned up and working right along with your engine).

There are loads of mods & available parts for 5hp B&S engines; along with the Honda GX200, they're one of the most popular small engines ever made...

Have a read through this for a few ideas...

thanks for all the feedback... I ended up getting the b&s working and cleaned up most of the rust on the frame and need to weld the roll bar and put it back together... I have another project kart that I picked up which is a 2 seater with a kohler magnum 18 (18hp). The previous owner started but didn't finish... it needs a bit of work but the engine seems to work... want to finish the dingo before moving on to the 2-seater... but I'm looking at ideas, I'm think 40 series torq converter.. I"ll probably make a separate thread for it... it would be cool to have a shifter on it with the 18hp engine, i think its a 1" output shaft, any idea if any bike/kart shifter gearboxes would work on it?
