I know this is possible because I see goped uses a small 49cc? engine on their small quad.

I want to use a 125cc pit bike engine because it has gears :D to make a small offroad go kart with full cage and suspension.
I am 6.1 tall and 150 pounds. you think the engine would work good for an offroad kart? I like how the 125cc performs on my friends pit bike.

I want a small kart to rally around trails at a friends farm, a cage is a must. just want to know if this sounds do able and if anyone has plans?

i'd get a 250 4 stroke...2 strokes have no low end, and a 125 is going to be really pipy and for an offroad kart low end is a must.

I would still like to hear more on the 125cc 4 stroke.
what do you guys think of Maxter? their 100cc engine from what I have read put out 26hp 16000 rpm that is typically used in carts around 330lb, I guess it seems weak for offroad.

Never heard of them, but 16k and 26hp is insane for a 100cc engine, is it 2 or 4 stroke?

Either way, a 125 4 stroke wont be amazing, but gear it for 40-50 and go for it, for $25 you cant lose.

They are strictly for on-road karts.

A 125 four stroke will get you around, but the weight of a full cage will lower the speed so much that you won't need the cage :roflol:

Get the 125, make an off-road kart with really low gearing (low top speed, high acceleration), and don't put a cage on it. You can always add a cage (and harness) later, but in your case I don't think you will want it.
