120v to 62 volts

hi id like to run my dc electric motor on 62volts but with the 120v home system,id like to know it that is possible,and if someone can help me make it happen,thanks very much i appreciate

hahahh no its just a winch im building and id like to know if can be run with that coz maybe it better than batteries,i just have no much idea, thanks very much i appreciate any help!

Are you sure it is 62 DC? that's a odd power usage. I have NEVER seen a 62v system. 12, 24, 48 sure but 62?!?!

What do you use it for, because going down to 48 or 24 volts dc would make this an easy fix. you can buy plug-in transformers but I've never seen a 62v one.

It shouldn't be too hard to make your own transformer to 62v, but it's a bit dangerous and i wouldn't recommend it.

62v sound weird to me as swell. if you google a 62V winch nothing pops up.

A winch needs at least several hundred or over a thousand watts to run, there's plenty of ways to step wall power down and rectify it to DC.

I think a warning may be in order, 62 volts is enough voltage to at least cause a painful shock and at most cardiac arrest so be careful, never work with live voltage or work with both hands on parts.

No these are DC motors, not AC.
It won't run unless you have a compatible power source. A dc power supply or batteries.

You need a little more than 60 VAC in order to rectify it. You lose a few volts going through a rectifier.

3kW at 60 volts is still 50 amps, you're going to need a massive transformer for that and the wire going to the motor would have to be at least 8 gauge.

As for the AC voltage needed on the secondary of the transformer, AC is measured by RMS so if a full wave rectifier is used the DC voltage will come out higher than the AC voltage going in. To get 60 volts you'd need about 42 volts AC.

42VAC x 1.414 = ~61.4VDC

I still think it would be a better idea to find a premade power supply cable of the power demand rather than using transformers and rectifiers.

I did just think of a good place to get a decent sized transformer for cheap. Old arc welders are nothing more than huge transformers with beefy rectifying diodes, find one of those and you'll be pretty much set.
