Just wanted to share this with everyone most of you prob have done this and if so i guess im late.
However i took on getting a lawn mower running for a friend of mine after he spent $400.00 for a solid state ignition i was doing some research when i came upon a video of using GM HEI parts and a 12 volt coil it just so happened to be i was just finishing a project swapping distributors in a old truck, so i had all the parts necessary to try this, I search around for the solid state ignition and it looked to me that it had been obsolete. i first searched around the garage for a magnetic pickup that i knew i had for a v twin Kawasaki. I cut the mag wires from the connector fabricated a bracket to hold it and with being able to adjust it once mounted, I adjusted the air gap to .015" routed wires to the HEI ignition module and temporarily mounted it and the coil to the top of the engine, Connected all wires to module and coil and was ready for a spark test cranked it over and dam if i didn't have spark during the time of fabricating a bracket for the magnetic pick up i wasn't paying attention to where exactly the mag needed to be as far as forward or back which would affect the timing however i stuck the plug in and it fired right up needless to say i was a little amazed just because of all the parts that were used i attached pictures to show the parts used, i have since the initial test I fabricated a new bracket for the magnetic pickup and mounted the module in the top of the flywheel cover and the coil toward the front hood brace. I though it was cool since my friend said if it don't run put a another engine in it, i sent him a video of it running 5 hours after he dropped it off
