right now we are working on a single seat with a jlo rockwell 400. I got a hold of a fl250 front end although not much suspension but it work very well for trail riding for my kid. We are putting just a swing arm rear, the same thats on my hammerhead. We ordered plans from ubuilditplans.com and modified them to meet our needs. I still haven't decided if i'm going to put a gearbox or not. The main problem is gearing it down. Either a double jack shaft or a gearbox, but I don't want it going any faster than 40. I just need it quick for trails and hill climbs.

Thought about a motorcycle engine? my kz400 is perfect, tons of power and she'll theoretically hit 90 by 6th, but only do 25-30 in first, tons of torque too.

I have a vtr 1000 that was wrecked but the engine is still good. Deserkart project someday. I also have another 583 still in the snowmobile. Its a 94 and it runs good I picked it up for 240 bucks. For the money u can't beat a sled. After all my builds Im going to stick with fan cooled sled engines. Cheep, lot of parts available

Yup, i gotta say, i have only powered two karts with anything but a sled or bike engine. I have a suzuki 440 fan im sticking in a golf kart at the moment, that thing should be fun.

That vtr is prolly a lil much for your kids, not sure what kind of tools you have access too, but machining a small gear reduction box wouldnt be too hard, would save some room over a double jackshaft setup.

Very cool build skeeter, I too am glad that you were serious when you said 100hp. Too often do people inaccurately categorize things.

it's the rush from 0-50 i'm after. When they see my hammerhead first thing they ask me is "how fast is it". I tell them it only goes about 50, but it does it in 50 feet!

You're one of the first few people for me to encounter that actually purchased a TJ powersport hammerhead kart. I've had people tell me that they seem very high quality and worth the price, but it is a small fortune to purchase that 250cc kart much less modify it the way you have.

Is this really worth the price? Please tell me what you think of their karts, I've witnessed first hand horror stories from customers week after week for the past 4 years regarding these Chinese karts. What are they doing differently? The style looks identical to any of the other manufacturers out there, how could the quality differ and the style not in any manner, I would think that if they are paying much more for quality from the factory why would they not alter the design with the metal?

I never been around other buggys before. I read several bad things about chinese go karts and to be very careful when buying one. I found several different web pages about hammerhead and all of them said they were a top of the line kart. There was no way I was going to buy a new one, I found this one on craigslist for $1500. Still a steep price to pay but I have had no problems with it at all. Parts are very easy to find, I can tell you I will be going through ALOT of brakes and tires. Suspension is very good and handeling is awsome. I do take the time to grease it often. Mine is 2006 model and I'm not sure how much they have changed since. Believe me it holds up very well even with this kind of horse power, and I got a lead foot. I'm even using the stock axle that was on it and it doesn't seem to be twisting. In my opinion this is the kart they should have made. I put my friends in it and the scream like girls, very funny.

Tell me where you have found replacement parts for the Hammerhead. I'd love to be able to steer some of our customers who have Chinese karts in the right places.

The brake assemblies have an oddly shaped disk where you basically have to shape one from scratch using a dremel if you can not find one aftermarket (I have not yet). I would say this is the main reason we avoid these karts, parts are simply impossible to find.

Feel free to PM me with any information you find, you'll be helping out more people than you know, I have to speak for 5-10 people a week telling them their kart will be difficult to find any parts. In the past I've found stores to send them to but they always seem to go out of business or have 1-2 of the correct part and then turn them away. I'm guessing they ran a forklift through a box at the warehouse and they parted out that item.

Reliable go karts. They have hammerhead Carter and a few others but you can buy just about everything except the main frame. Let me know if u find it. If not I can send u the link. I have it saved on my other computer.

Cool man, I found the link to their main store, I'll be sending people there for sure.

The prices are steep but frankly, you can tell they're parting out full karts and selling the parts individually, if I were doing the same thing it would need to be priced accordingly. It all makes perfect sense. Good find and hopefully this will do some people good. They'll curse me for the prices and my unwillingness to work on their but thats cool, they get what they get.
