1000W electric kart build for kids and grown up

Here's the electric go kart i designed and build last summer. I've design it to be ajustable (pedals, steering and speed) for kids and grown up to be able to drive it and have fun. It's 36v and 1000w. It got a 30km/h top speed and a 40min ride time.

I would'nt have built it if it was for myself only. But yes I also had fun designing, building and driving it.

Thanks guy! The axle is 3/4" diameter and it does'nt seem to flex even with higher weight people on it. There is about 4in between the bearing and the wheel. I can bring the wheel closer to the bearing if it became a issue.

Today I modified the steering geometry a bit because my ackermann angle wasn't as I wanted it to be. I had to bring out the tie rod end point on the hub. It turn really better now. It was already good but now it's even better. I need to make better looking brakets and longer tie rod now.

I also changed the sprocket from a 60tooth to a 72tooth for more torque.

And I finaly got a can of wheel paint and painted the rear wheels

it's the "bump in the road" that causes issues with axles like these..

Personally I'll upgrade to a 1" axle once the kids grow older (and heavier) and the kart get's set up for higher speeds (more significant impact on bumps )

but as soon as it's bent you'll surely fix that anyways,
so no need to think about it now I guess

It's quite obvious how much thought, love and effort you put into making this kart.
So I'm not too concerned about it being less than perfect.

I mean your steering was good,
but you improved it to be as good as possible for no other reason
than you knew there was still room for improvement...

I finaly came with a design I like for the fenders. What do you think?

I liked it better w/o fenders tbh.

and while fenders do serve a legit purpose..
too little of a gap and they are constantly filled with wet leaves and mud,
in fact you'll always find the perfect size stick or stone on the road to get
wedged under the fender unless you'll have them comically far from the tyre.

There's a good reason you don't see too many 'road karts' with fenders

But yes, to answer your question.. IF you really want some,
those are looking good

Thanks for your comment! I think I will put a little bit more clearence. The main purpuse of them is more to protect the driver. The kids who drove it so far have put their feet on the front wheels a lot, so I wanted something to prevent that. I'm mostly driving it on dry asphalte and it would only be 8 bolt to remove to get them off if I need to. I think I'll give them a try and see if I like them.
