I am pricing and looking for tubing for our go-kart at a local steel house.

I am debating over 1.25 vs 1" tubing. What size are most using to build a go-kart. Will 1" be strong enough if I get 1/8 walled
thickness?

Thanks

Mike

1" is the usual size and less than 1/8" thick for your average kart...

That being said, without details on what you plan to build....we really can't say what you should use....

1" with 1/16" wall is the most common material used but, that's usually for a small kart with a 5-7hp engine; for a larger vehicle, larger tube is recommended...

Just because the tubing has thicker walls doesn't necessarily mean it's stronger but, it is heavier; for this reason, we always recommend using larger thin wall tubing over small thick wall tubing

So if I go with a 12-16 hp engine would 1.25" with 1/16 - 1/8 wall be go enough to
withstand the go-kart when building a 2 seater?
