have you seen this one? i think those 6x6 skid steer type setups work alot better if your applying the power like this via belt tentioners rather than braking to steer

I dunno. I could see benefits and liabilities to both methods. Not least of which is that belt-drive systems tend to not like excessive moisture and slip. Personal preference thing, I guess. We'll have to wait and see what TeamCheap does!

Those tires on that little one are so close together.
If I do belt drive it will have to have both forward and reverse drive so I can sit and spin in one tight spot.
I most likely will just use the transaxle and brake steer it since it will be the easiest.
I got 6 3/4" bearing hubs coming so I will be able to start fabbing the frame soon.

I did buy fenders yesterday for it at a cost of $95 for two.
They are the tear drop stye which means I'll be cutting that off buts that OK since I was going to trim the ends up anyway.
As I progress I'll be looking into the possibility of having a removeable engine/trans mount that will allow me to switch between a tractor transaxle setup and a belt drive setup.
Right now its just an idea but since I'll be making this thing I could make it happen even if I dont make the belt drive right away I can make it easy to do later without having to cut/weld.

Well I got my hubs today.........my little itty-bitty wittle hubleys.

Pics will come shortly since I do have fenders and hubs and stuff but I usually dont go out and work in the garage after my 10 hour day at work so its just parts and stuff right now.
I'm getting soft as I get old and at 6:00 P.M. I just dont have a lot of time to spend out there.
If they put me back on 8 hour days then I could spend a few hours out there after work but it doesnt look like thats going to happen anytime soon.
I will be working on it in some form this weekend even if its just to salvage more parts from the junk tractor.
If I dont start on the actual building of it until feburary I can enter it in the build off.So far I just have gathered parts/stuff with no actual work being done on the frame as of yet.

OK who wants to see pictures ?
The wife and I were out in the garage today taking apart the green tractor and did a very rough mock up.
Enjoy, laugh, critisize but remember its just a rough mockup.
In this first photo you can see axles and the hubs thats because i couldnt get the rim off the axle and we took the transaxle apart which is what I'll do to the other two transaxles anyway to get the shafts and cut keyways in them to lock the sprockets to.
the tear drop in the middle of the fenders will be cut out and I'll be trimming the front and backs of the fenders once I have a rolling frame to attach them to.

The fenders will be the body for the most part.
I plan to have an open one person seating area with the control levers on each side for easy access but it will have a half roll cage at the back for safety that will surround my head/shoulders.
(gotta have a place to mount those lights)
The bottom will be filled in as well as the sides up to the bottom of the fenders.
It wont float, not meant to be amphibious, but I do want to be able to run through puddles and snow/slush without wearing it all.

It doesnt look like much right now but once I get the basic chassis built up a bit it will start to take shape.Havnt even started on that yet but sunday and monday I hope to get some done on it.

This weekend will hopefully be more productive and with a better plan to cut all the angle iron brackets I might actually get some stuff tack welded.
I cut all 12 brackets I needed then realized how much easier/better it would be to predrill the 1" holes needed to allow the brackets to wrap the frame pipe.
I need to buy two 1" metal cutting hole saws.
Next week I start back on 8 hour days so I'll be able to come home from work and go out and work on stuff for a few hours, after working 10 hours and getting home at 6 I just hate to go out there.

Just came in for lunch and to let the drill press cool down, it doesnt handle drilling 1" holes very well.
I got another 6' x 1"1/4 angle iron and I'm drilling the 1" holes that will be cut and sort of wrap the frame tube (12 brackets each at 6"s) the brackets will hold the hubs between the frame tubes.
After all those holes are drilled i'll flip it and drill all the hub mounting holes then cut each bracket out and do some clean up grinding/fitting and tack weld the basic frame sides together if all goes well.
Hopefully I'll have pics later of both sides tack welded.
