Newbie just bought a Kart with potential

do not go solid live axle you already have independent rear suspension. if your u-joints are welded to the axle i would just buy new u-joints and new axle shafts and then bolt them together. if I were you i would not try to build a new rear end i would just swap out anything thats welded...

2 things. 1 is weight a big issue, 2 replaceable sprockets

remove the front and rear bumper and the box's around the wheels and you will lose 50-75 lbs at least. you can also cut down that box around the steering shaft. i would personally remove the box around the steering shaft completely and make a hoop out of tubing to hold the steering shaft in place.

    New project started

gotta admit i am really interested in seeing how this buggy turns out. for my next project after my current one i was thinking of either buying plans off theo on gorkartforums or getting some plans from edge. I'm just not sure of the edge buggy's have the clearance i will be looking for.

    New project started

check craigslist for a donor quad. thats what i did for my project. i bought a no name 150cc quad for $400 and stripped it. aside from wheels and engine you also get the sprocket, BRAKES (mine came with single rear disc and dual front drum), reverse if it has it but not all do (mine didn't...

help with Torgue Convertor set up

if you buy a comet tq you don't need anything. they come ready to go. you may have to adjust your chain length though as the main drive sprocket will be in a different location.

my soon to be modified yerf dog

TBH i don't think this motor will be enough for me but it is the biggest engine i feel safe mounting to this frame. I plan on building a bandit buggy sometime in the future and that will have a 600cc or bigger engine. then i should be satisfied with the power :wai:

my soon to be modified yerf dog

sadly not much real work has been done on my kart as of late. after racking our brains for a couple hours me and my roommate found out the swing arm and tensioner won't work. the positioning of the transmission leaves no room to mount a tensioner. with a different engine this setup would...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

my goal is to get it up to around 50 on level ground. with the old briggs setup i think i hit about 45mph but i was going downhill with my foot to the floor. but as soon as i hit even the slightest uphill it would drop down to about 10mph.

my soon to be modified yerf dog

here are pics what i did today. I cut the backbone of the quad out along with the engine. i cut it long to test fit it in the kart. as it turns out, it fit almost perfectly where it needs to be and the backbone will require minimal work to attach to the kart frame. whats left of the quad the...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

i chopped up the quad with a sawzall today and pulled the engine out. I also removed the swingarm/engine assembly from the kart to make room for the new engine and swingarm. we left the top rails of the quad frame intact to make make mounting the engine easier. we set to motor in place and it...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

me and my roomate got to brainstorming and i have decided to use a swing arm but have the engine fixed to the frame. I'll be building a chain tensioner so no worries about the chain falling off. here is some pics from last nights work. nothin to major just some new rims and tires and a shot of...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

my attempt at completing this in 2 weeks has been hindered by excessive heat in my area over the last week. but it finally cooled down enough to play around in the garage i started tearing down the quad a bit today, took the gas tank off, the rims/tires, all the plastics, the front brakes...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

i actually plan on extending the whole rear section of the kart and lengthening the swing arm. the quad motor is horizontal and takes up alot more space then the briggs does. i can't use the axle off the quad as it is to short, its a good 8-10" shorter then the kart axle, but i beleive both are...

my soon to be modified yerf dog

here is the quad i'm using for parts. it is 150cc with single rear disc and dual front drum brakes. no reverse :mad2: . it has electric start and automatic transmition. I plan on taking the front shocks off the quad and making them the rear shocks on the kart, i'm taking the headlights...
