Boy Scout kart build - dubbed "The Hot Rod"

There is no tire spin on take off with full throttle. Then as we got on some of the steeper roads it would stop going and could not start again. It sounded like the engine was slowing down to where the clutch disengaged, then it would just slip.

My brother pulled it up the hill on all four wheels. The engine still runs just as good as it did before. I have not had the energy to unload it from the trailer. It will probably be a while before I get around to fixing it. I was looking at it yesterday. The paint is cracked around most of the...

So much for that Well, We went up to Walker Valley ORV park on Thursday afternoon. We unloaded some stuff and decided to go out for the first drive. The kart was under powered, but it got up to about 30 on the flat areas. According to the GPS. Thanks for the idea. It did not make it up some...

Thanks for the info on the jets and where to get them. I wil check into getting some. I have to see if the local shop can get me jets for the Arctic Cat or if I have to drive to Issaquah to the Arctic Cat dealer. Did some more work last night. Made one of the holders for the reverse shifter...

Sled motors don't have a transmission in them, so there is not really much to the crankcase accept a bottom of the engine. There is no dipstick or fill tube. At least this one. I will take a look again just incase I missed it. Thanks for the info on adjusting the pump. I will look at that...

Thanks guys. I had thought about the push rod bending, and have been thinking about stiffening ideas. The square tube is a possibility, or welding on some flat bar. Yep, I will put an air filter on it. The one I had for it seems to restrict the air flow to hardly an idle. I need to find another...

Reconfigured rear suspension Ok, So I was irritated by the rear suspension and did some work on it. Took me a couple days. Now, I have it mostly done and it functions. It is very stiff, but that is better then complete droop all the time. Here are some Pictures of the pushrod system I made.

As far as I can tell the oil injection is into the intake runners after they split to each cylinder. I did not notice anything going into the crankcase, but the oil injector is mounted to the side of the case, so there could be something I can't see. But, probably not. There is no transmission...

If the injection system put oil on the bearings, wouldn't the crank case get full of oil eventually? I personally have never owned a 2 stroke before, so I need as much help as I can get.

So for now I will just try to clean the carb and see if that makes a difference, maybe something is stuck or something.

Wouldn't it run leaner if it was set for high altitude? It is currently making a gas mist out of the carb and the plugs are black and wet. So, I was thinking it was running really rich. That is a good point about the oil injector. I will look into removing that. Then, what mix ratio do you use...

I am not sure how to adjust the premix I did not see an adjustment for it. There is a slight blue in the smoke at times, but it is mostly white. I would think if the mix was the problem it would just cause a lot of blueish smoke, not white smoke.

Thanks everyone. There are mounts, they are just hard to see in the pictures. Two are spring and the last one on the muffler is hard mounted. I will see if I can get one tonight.

I got some more work done. It is running a little better but still needs work. I got the exhaust together most of the way. Looks a little funny, but is functional. And it makes it much quieter. I still have to weld up a couple leaks. I will see if I can make a video of it running. I have the...

My cart is over 50 inchs, because the back wheels stick out so far. Not sure if they have a width rule here. I have not seen one, but they probably do. The CV housings are way hard, but a chop saw cuts it nicely. I can't see a lathe cutting it very well at all even with carbide bits. I...

Boy Scout kart build - dubbed "The Hot Rod"

I used the rear carrier out of the Yamaha Warrior. The axles are from a Mitsubishi Galant because it had the hub bearings I wanted. I had to shorten the axles to get them the correct length. I cut the quad rear axle down so that it just stuck out of the brake rotor and chain sprockets. I welded...
