    My first kart build

Hi everyone, Sorry if this questions been asked before but have you any suggestions on the best way to stop the drive tyre slipping on the rim, it has been fine up until the weekend when i pushed it a bit harder and the tube obviously slipped on the rim and tore the valve stem off the tube. The...

    My first kart build

Spent this arvo on it as well, it really has gotten quite addictive. Took it for a rolling demo, seemed to go quite well. Still waiting on the clutch and chain before i can get it running. The frame is getting closer to finished though. Hopefully do the brake and make the seat this weekend.

Thanks for the suggestion Bighead. I have worked out the pedal design and i can get them to fit, bit of a squeeze though. I have dropped the floor down as low as i can to give as much knee room as possible. Its only got about 70mm ground clearance now. Fowler, i am trying to get it to look as...

Thanks Bighead, you must have read my mind. Finishing the steering is the next job. I am still a little unsure exactly how im going to do it, that image definitely helps, thanks.

More progress on the frame, slow going but getting there. Waiting for more parts to arrive.

No Harbor Freight worst luck. Good old ebay if you want something cheaper, but of coarse you get what you pay for. Fowler, yeah that v8 Atom is insane, the price is a little on the steep side compared to the original one though, not that i was planning on buying one. No free stuff....ever...

    My first kart build

Yeah ive tried all kinds of different ways, just maybe not the right way. Id love to get a decent mig but i just dont weld often enough to justify getting one. I already spend thousands a year on tools as im a builder and there is always something you need or need to replace, worst luck a new...

    My first kart build

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It is a stick welder, but im not going to blame the welds on that. Just need a lot more practice. Ive been doing it off and on for years but never consistently enough to get good at it. I will be checking over the welds i have already done and redoing them just...

Yes my welding does suck a tad. Id like to say over the years it has improved but i think i have already hit my peak. :D

    My first kart build

Thought id post some progress shots. Very slow going at the moment doing bits and pieces of an afternoon. Engine should arrive tomorrow. Here is the plan, i spent quite a lot of time on it but im sure will change as im going. Made a uni-joint for the steering column Made pivoting...

New builder with alot of questions!

I have done a fair bit of arc welding in the past although i am far from an expert but i wouldnt like your chances being able to weld 1.5 tube without burning holes straight through it especially if you are just learning. I would also suggest going to a larger diameter tube maybe 20 - 25mm

Will this clutch suit this engine?

Thanks blue thunder, probably be used a bit on and off road. If you sacrificed say 10mph off the top speed from 40mph down to 30mph would it be a huge difference with acceleration off the line? It sounds like its a difficult thing to get that balance right.

Will this clutch suit this engine?

3/4 converts to 19.05mm so i would have assumed it would fit but im not sure

Will this clutch suit this engine?

Hey guys, Just wanted to know if this clutch would suit this engine and would the 12 tooth sprocket be a good match for say a 60 tooth axle sprocket. Im not after massive speed and as the kart will be reasonably heavy would there be a better sprocket combination? As you can probably tell this is...

That is my pride and joy work ute. Its a Ford Falcon XR8, (its an aussie thing) 5.4 litre v8, 290kw (388HP), 6 speed manual, custom built tray. I posted a couple of pics here - http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1759&page=35

    My first kart build

Jeremy, I dont think you could get a briggs motor here that cheap. There is cheaper quality 4 strokes 5.5 or 6.5 HP for around the $140 - $150. Redsox, i was wondering if there was such a thing as i knew those tie rod ends wouldnt work particularly well with the suspension set up. Sounds like...

    My first kart build

Thanks Hayden, Im following you with the kingpin inclination suggestion, what would be a decent angle to do? Are you suggesting another small spring under the spindle will stop the harsh 'whack' when the suspension returns. A nice dense rubber bush would work just as well or better? Yeah i made...

    My first kart build

I have drawn up the front suspension to how i would like it be. Can anyone see any issues with it. The one problem i could see would be as the springs compress it will change the angle of the tie rods which will slightly turn the wheels. Hard to say exactly how much it would affect the steering...
