    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

After tiring of smashing/bending and finally breaking the frame where the front wheels mount, I welded some new (axles/spindles?) on the front end, made the beginning of a bash bar, removed the front fenders (tired of those getting smashed down against the tires), and have yet to hit anything...

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

I was thinking about that, but I'd like to maintain the ability to remove the "cage" portion if desired (it is currently all bolted on with u-bolts - I know, not the sturdiest thing ever). I may bring a piece of tube from the bar around the hip/thigh area down to the "treeflector" though.

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

Yesterday I made some "treeflectors" to hopefully deflect the trees / scoot the rear of the kart instead of another dead blow with a rear tire. I was thinking I'd try them like this until the next hit, but I think I may add another cross brace inside each one - the tubing isn't really that...

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

Yeah the front fenders were inspired by the go kart my grandfather had for us to ride when I was a kid, and we used to end up with all kinds of dirt up our shorts. I'm going to put some mud flaps on the fenders in the future as well to help out a little more hopefully!

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

I rented a bobcat and had a couple buddies come over and help me knock out the trail yesterday. After we each made a lap of course we had to start timing ourselves. The first lap of the second round proved devastating for the go kart. One of my buddies came out of the s-turn too fast, got the...

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

After the shims for the front wheels arrived, I swapped wheels so I could begin working on the rear fenders (and check front fitment). I forgot to take pictures until I was nearly done with the first fender... Started with a 10 3/4" double axle trailer fender. I cut the ends off. This...

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

Been a while since my last update. Haven't had much time to work on the kart lately. Got the wheels powder coated a silver metallic with candy teal top coat. I believe I'm going to do the gas tank and covers the same color... How they might look on the kart. I won't be installing them...

    better turning? weight up front?

In my thread in the projects section I have pictures of how I added weight to the front of mine. I have some ackerman angle as well, but needed a little more to keep traction off road.

Arachnid Build, ... or is it! (Highly Modified)

This picture actually shows the caster angle. The camber angle is the top of the wheel tilting in/out... I don't know much about suspended kart alignments, but you probably want to check the camber throughout the range of the suspension. You probably don't ever want to see positive camber...

    cleaning metal

Woah not brake cleaner! I just use an angle grinder until it is nice and shiny. If you want it really clean you could use denatured alcohol or acetone would be a little stronger even. http://www.brewracingframes.com/id75.htm

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

Feels pretty good. I'm not sure specifically what you are asking. I'll have a re-edited video back up soon (when I get a chance). I took the other one down because I accidentally made the window very small.

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

They are just bald tires that came on the kart when I bought it. I have some replacements that will be going on after I powder coat the wheels. I don't feel like you are "stealing" the thread by asking that. These type threads should be for questions both ways in my opinion.

That is pretty much all I had planned for now (but I'm going to put them on after I powder coat everything).

    Rigid GX160 > GX390 Clone Off-Road Resto-Mod

I had some header wrap in the garage, and the welds look so poor (I think mainly because of the wrong shielding gas - couldn't get a steady arc) that I had to just wrap it up. I didn't feel like grinding all those welds down lol. The muffler is an "RLV muffler" from AGK. It seemed to quiet it...

    Clutch on 13hp honda?

My point was if you had a direct drive, how would you stop the thing? The wheels would have to be spinning or the engine would shut down... If the wheels speed was 0, the engine speed would have to be as well...
