Thanks for the offer, but it's going back together with the governor in place as designed. When the kids get more confident I'll disable it.

When I removed the governor control arm I must have moved the vertical shaft arm too far and the little nylon cap, inside the casing, that pushes on the governor arm came off. The washer stayed in place, no damage. The cap was safely hiding behind the low oil level switch. I'm sure I have used...

Yah, I was going to go in through the oil fill hole, after draining. Not an issue now, as I removed the side cover and found the problem.

Ok, changing my name to "Bonehead". When I removed the governor control arm I must have moved the vertical shaft arm too far and the little nylon cap, inside the casing, that pushes on the governor arm came off. Miracle, but the washer stayed in place, no damage. The cap was safely hiding behind...

Yes, I did remove the throttle cable, no change. Relatively certain, though uncommon, that the govenor (internally) has came apart or is malfunctioning. I'm putting a camera inside to take a look. Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, the red one does say Invader on the pan. I just was not sure about the blue one, but based on your pics, it's probably and invader also. Probably one wild Christmas for a couple kids.

The HF engine has set un-used in a shed since 2008. I was the first to start it about a week ago. Runs fine when I disable the govenor, it's a matter of priniciple at this point, just like to know what is a miss.

Hope the pics made it to the forum. I think the go-karts are "Invader" brand from the 70s or 80s. I took everything off and put it back together, see pics. No change WOT when engine starts. I can slow it down manually, but thats the only way. I'm starting to believe the govenor has come apart...

Yah, the wife kinda likes the kids, so I'm doing my part to make them last, but i'm about to give up on this one. Sorry, I'm in the sticks and having trouble uploading pics. I'll try them one at a time.

Ten and 8, but have an unusually high survival drive. Maybe the truth is closer to, they have more fear than I do. A speed limiter does make good sense, I really had not went down that path of thinking for this issue.

Wow, thanks a lot. Clearly stuff I did not know, and thanks for the pic. I'll give another run at it tomorrow. The setup in the pic is how I had it hooked up, so I must have another problem, as suggested. If I can't make it work I'll post some pics. FYI, videos that I watched online show the...

Old man needs governor help clone (Greyhound) 212cc

I have a brand new 2008 Greyhound 6.5hp engine I just put on a go-kart for my grandkids. I took off the govenor linkage, then changed my mind, afraid the grandkids might launch into a tree. I put the linkage back on, triple checked the linkage, adjusted the govenor. Here is the problem, with the...
