    I finally found that the governor rod needed to be adjusted. Not sure how or why it was out of adjustment but it fixed the issue. Thanks for your help.

    Haven't taken photos yet. Waiting for the new springs to arrive and see if that does anything to solve the problem. I appreciate your advice as this has really got me puzzled.

    Well, this is what I have done so far. I decided to take the belt off so the kart wouldn't take off while I was working on it. I checked the spring on the rod that hooks to the throttle plate, it appears to be installed correctly plus I checked the spring that goes to the governor arm as well...

    I am going to check these things out today. If I can't see the problem I will try and send a picture or video of what it is doing. I appreciate all the help. I did hook the springs back up to where they were before.

    Yes, it shows about 2000 rpm when choke is on, smokes a little but think that might be normal. Once I take the choke off the thing goes right to high rpm and cart wants to take off.

    My great grandson's KT196 would not start so I changed the carburetor, it started on the very first pull. My problem is that it goes full rpm (3900) when I take the choke off. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but that does nothing to slow it down so what am I doing wrong? Any help will...
