Would a head gasket heat up and melt from the chain being to tight around the sprockets ? I have a k181 kohler and after about 10 minutes of riding I noticed the head gasket bubbling and smoking a bit ! Thanks for any help !

yeah see, I'm starting the engine with the back wheels of the kart of the ground and the engine starts and idles great, as soon as I lower the rear wheels to the ground the kart engine dies. The choke has to stay just about closed for the engine to continue idling, I've tried letting it idle to...

My kohler k181 starts and idles when I try to open the choke all the way the engine dies it revs hard though with it shut but as soon as I put the wheels to the ground the engine dies, why ?? Also I'm not running a cent clutch, only direct drive sprocket.

So of course if the fuel tank isnt mounted above the fuel line connection to the engine, I will have to use a fuel pump, how does the fuel pump work if there are no electronics on board ?

All sounds good, think I might try this before I go and buy a cent clutch, from what I herd it saves clutch wear to keep your machine open throttle, what the hell Im gonna do that anyways, with or without a clutch ! If for some reason I dont like it, Ill be forced to buy the clutch alot sooner.

Direct drive sprocket, even better, I figured I could use the breaks to slow down and just kill the engine to make a complete stop. I wonder what the kohler k181 idles @ rpm ?

Has anyone ever tried welding a sprocket straight to the engine shaft ? Other than the engine shaft spinning on the start-up would there be anything else to be concerned about ? Im just being cheap, dont wana spend $85 bucks on a clutch for a 1" shaft, the karts pretty much gonna be for bashing...

Might wanna try some thinner tires up front for steering purposes ?

Makes sense with the right gearing the mini cup clutch looks to be capable of handling 18hp engines but then again a torque convert. is not much more price wise, and the only thing to worry about with tq's is the belt, correct ?

I just spoke with a kart shop in houston and I was told that it wasnt worth buying the 1" clutches that they actually stopped selling them cause customers were returning them very unhappy due to them burning out in a day or two ? I'm sure most of the problem was probley due to improper gearing...

Makes good sense, any other reasons why all late model racing karts might be side engine mount designed ?
