When I measured the diameter of the flat side to flat side it was 1 inch diameter. I would just buy a new axle if it wasn't for all of the other parts that I would need to replace.

I had that thought, I just wasn't sure if it would be unbalanced due to not being absolutely perfect. Definitely worth a shot though.
