    Warbird Projects of mine

Fifi.... I remember getting on that B-29 YEARS ago. I don't remember what air show I was at... Might've been at Oceana. No clue. Cool plane. I'm pretty sure I had a DVD about Fifi.

    Belt shavings

One of the random names they stamp on belts that come of a factory in China. Had something like that on an import drill press. Crazy thing is, it lasted about 40 years before I replaced it. It only broke because I tried to put 1-1/2 HP through an old 3L belt.

    Belt shavings

No reason for a GOOD belt to chunk. Try replacing it with a new one from a reputable brand.

    hf compression tester

Wait a minute... you shouldn't be able to see any leak down on a compression tester. Pressure goes into the gauge and is held there by a check valve. You need to push a button to bleed the pressure off. I haven't used the HF gauge, so maybe it's different, but that's how all the compression...

    hf compression tester

Sounds like either a faulty tester or you have a leak somewhere. I've always used one with a hose. Never had an issue.

    Nitrous?

To answer your question... "Nitrous?" Yes. You can give it nitrous till you run out. Just use common sense. If it's over-revving and shooting a flame out the exhaust, cut back on the NO2 (my suggestion, anyway). As said, WOT only, otherwise what's the point. I would see if you can get a bigger...

Is it possible to put longer Leads and fluxcore lines on a 110volt welder?

Not arguing with you, but you're talking best practices. You get power loss through your cables over distance. More the farther you go. You can mitigate this by going to larger wire. Guys with engine drives might run 300 feet of cable to get from their truck to what they need to weld. Pipeliners...

    Gas vs GassLess welding

I've done that a couple times as a sorta idiot check when I'm stick welding far enough away from the machine I can't hear it. Sometimes its rust between the clamp and the work, a little paint, whatever. Usually I just forgot to cut the machine on. Been meaning to buy some new ground clamps...

    Gas vs GassLess welding

Also - stop cutting your wire unless it's sticking out too far. You don't need the flux exposed or whatever. Frankly, I don't even keep cutting pliers/welpers on my bench. I have a piece of steel on the bench I arc off on if the wire is too far out.

    Gas vs GassLess welding

The nozzle on a MIG is there to direct the shielding gas. You can actually get flux core nozzles to replace a MIG nozzle. They're smaller in diameter at the end for better visibility. The nozzle is electrically insulated from the tip (even the metal ones - those use a ceramic insulator.) You can...

More power from a Kohler Command 18HP?

You're completely right about the the potential cavitation issues in the hydraulics. I'm not looking for more power to spin the transaxle pump, just the PTO. I have a couple projects planned for it that'll benefit from a couple extra HP.

More power from a Kohler Command 18HP?

I have a Kohler Command 18HP in a lawn tractor. I don't use it to cut my lawn anymore - got a new one. Been working on rebuilding it. Went ahead and pulled the transaxle apart and rebuilt the hydraulic pump and motor. Waiting on axle shaft seals now. I'm doing a bunch of other work to it, too. I...

    Rat Rod compressor

You basically made one of these. https://www.rolair.com/products/air-compressors/wheeled-gas/4090hk1720. My Rolair is from the 80's (I think) and they're still using the same tensioner setup. Super simple and works well. It wouldn't be a bad idea to copy it...

    Rat Rod compressor

Nice! Looks like about a 3HP pump - right? I use my Rolair engine drive all the time. Look at getting a filter/regulator. I haven't used one of the HF pumps, but I imagine you'll be able to push 9 or 10 CFM. I put a 1/4" ball valve on my tank and drain the tank every time I put gas in it, start...
