The 500 watt motor did not have enough torque to push the cart through the grass. It also struggled going up slight hills. This was with a 40-50 lb rider. With the jack shaft it will motor me through the grass (220 lbs) and now I have traction issues. I need to get some more aggressive tread on...

Haha. No. Just had a lot of that color paint from resto projects on tractors.

Okay finally got some paint flowing. Jack shaft at a 10:1 final ratio is installed and I am about half way reassembled.

500 watt my1020 motor too weak to push cart in grass

Yeah if I get some sprockets and pillow blocks I can make one. I'll need to rework where the motor is mounted so it fits but it should work.

500 watt my1020 motor too weak to push cart in grass

It's 2050 RPM per the tag. It probably doesn't go 5-6 mph now. I have 10" diameter tires now. The motor was essentially free and this was just a trial run at the whole electric thing so I'm not out much. My guess is it would actually go faster if it was geared differently. As under no load...

500 watt my1020 motor too weak to push cart in grass

So my niece (about 40 lbs) finally got to test drive the cart. It appears to not have the torque to push itself through the grass. It has a 12t sprocket on the motor and a 60t on the axle. I know that's not a torque monster gear ratio but I figured it would be able to move through the grass...

Finally got my niece in it for a test drive. I have a few mods to make and then it's paint time https://vimeo.com/127539768

    #35 sprocket for my1020 500 watt motor.

Nice. I ended up welding my two sprockets together. Works fine pushing my butt in the cart without breaking.

    Itzy Bitzy, my first build.

Phew. I'm sure glad I made my frame pretty close to square haha. From a constructive criticism stand point it personally seems like you're in a hurry to get this done. That's fine but from what I have learned rushing through one step usually ends up in another take longer than it should have...

Mounted the batteries (3-12v 5ah SLA units) in an ammo can on the cart. These batteries are temporary as they will only give me about 20 minutes of run time max once I limit the throttle down. I'll be upgrading later down the road I also made a dash board with the power switch and an...

Thank you. Can't wait to get it fully operational so my niece can test drive it before I pull it apart for paint

Seats on. Aside from cleaning up some things and replacing some temp parts that's it for the fabrication minus a brake pedal and a mount for the batteries.

I think I've decided to go electric. Now how to slow it down for cheap

I was talking super cheap (China for $13) controller should be here next week I'm not 100% convinced I'll like and or want to leave this thing electric so I'm willing to waste a little money should I need to upgrade it later but at least I'm not out much (and could likely flip the cheaper...

Got a little more done. Welded in some 16ga sheet for a floor pan and put a chain on it. Hooked it up with a little 12 v battery (no throttle control and no brakes) and did a short test drive. It goes maybe 3 mph with my 225lb butt on it so maybe 12 with the full 36v and a small kid on it.

Mounted the electric motor and built some temporary tie rods (once this thing gets taken apart for paint I'll buy the correct ones) This week or next my batteries, motor controller, and throttle pedal should be here and I can put this thing together and test it out. Once I know it works I'll...

    Kids kart build

Ordered a cheap controller and a Hall effect pedal to see if I like this whole electric idea. If it sucks I'm not out much coin and could likely resell it. Looks like this thing may be moving under its own power by Saturday.

I think I've decided to go electric. Now how to slow it down for cheap

I'm going to start off with a cheepo. I'm not 100% convinced electric is the way to go but I'll keep kelly in mind

If I go engine I'll use the 79cc HF engine. Since I have a 500 watt DC motor already I think I'll set it up for electric and when the kids get a little older I'll switch to gas.
