I see the one end of the brake band on the rod but hard to guess where the fixed end is attached until he takes off the wheel and give us another picture. The brake bands are still available and the drums are just a clutch drum with some holes stamped in it to align with the bolt hole pattern...
You got the driver looking pretty good. There is a powder metal insert that goes inside the driver unit that looks like this. Has a built in keyway and it is to support the bolt so it goes in straight and prevents the outside cover from excess wobble. Do you still have that part? if you...
Nick - how is the project coming? You got the driven back by now and I was waiting for the two measurements so I could tell you what belt to get for the series 20 set up you have. Pictures of your completed unit are nice to see.
What are you putting the t/c on a mini-bike or a go kart? If you are building your own jackshaft then go with a series 20 for a go kart but for a minibike the bolt on backing plate is by far the simplest system to mount and problem free and those all are Series 30 with the flat side towards the...
Just want you to know I did get the driver and the driven. Like the guys pointed out to you they are two different series by Comet. Your driven unit on the jackshaft is 7" and it is a series 20 and it is in good shape other than it needs a good cleaning which I will do and re-lube with a dry...
Lots of good advice from some experts that have all done it before. If you haven't bought a new driver or driven unit I can offer another possible suggestion which will save you some money. Put both the driver and driven into a box and send it to me and I will go through them both and tell you...
Most fun kart manufacturers used #420 chain and a 10 tooth clutch. Manco was the exception they used the #35 chain 12/72 on the basic back yard kart. Anything with a t/c they used the #420 chain (prestretched #41 chain). I think your tooth count on that rear sprocket will be 60 teeth.
Go kart Dave -- great kart worth restoring. Bob just gave all his stuff he has been sitting on for 20 years to a guy that "might" start rebuilding that kart. The guy getting the stuff did a video on picking up all the fixtures and stuff that Bob had stored...
Brister's out of Roseland, LA. 5hp Briggs flat head was on it. 10 tooth clutch with a 60 tooth rear sprocket, stub axle, you still got the band brake, front steering needs some work. Model D-600 is what you have.
Just looked up the clutch we use to sell Carter and it had a ball bearing in it not the normal bushing because few people do maintenance on a fun kart when they first buy it they drive the wheels off of it. The clutch was 2 pieces because the ball bearing was on the crankshaft not on the sleeve...
Belt is too loose, it also should be a BX belt and not a B or 5L belt. You need the cogs in the belt when you turn the tight radius of the pulley sheaves on the clutch. Carter Brothers had very good luck with that set up. It worked just needs to change some things. Would be nice to know at...
Just another thought -- Since you just got the kart ask the previous owner what fuel did he race with gas or alcohol? The carb is set up for one or the other. RAT gave you a lot of food for thought and it is all very good. The 18:1 ratio is way off, use that and you will go broke changing...
I stand corrected he does have an internal key, Philip is in Sweden and has converted the engine over to run horizontal which is a feat in itself. What a project. I guess this is his contribution to going green for the planet, don't throw anything away just use your brain to figure out how to...
If he got a 1" clutch more than likely it would have a keyway not the built-in-internal key. Cost too much for a broach to do the internal key for such a limited market. Once you get to 1" crankshaft 99% of the time it would be a torque converter not a single clutch system. I would try and...
McMaster-Carr normally has just about everything you need but they don't have the step key from 3/16 to 1/4". You would have to make your own from some 1/4" key stock.
Call Max-Torque and get a 7/8 clutch to start with. Crankshaft has to be drilled and tapped and measure the length of the crankshaft so you can give that info.
