Mounting a 6.5hp engine to a mountain bike?

I built this.. not quite a mountain bike, but it moves pretty well with the 49cc pocket bike motor!

    Pocket bike powered bicycle revisited

Just a quick update, the plastic pull start was giving me trouble so I ordered a metal one.. . No twisting with this one! Before cleaning up and paint.. It had a lot of casting marks on it so I cleaned it up and painted it with engine enamel After paint

    Pocket bike powered bicycle revisited

Yeah.. I had the foot pegs done, but there was no way I was going to do a test ride without making a chain guard first!! Its a nicer ride too.. the pegs on the rear wheel just wasn't cutting it.

Foot peg relocation and chain guard complete! I may have to do some tweaking on the chain guard as it already broke once..

It wasn't too bad actually! I had a couple bearings from a snowmobile drive shaft and they pretty much fell in place! I did have to grind away some imperfections in the tube but besides that, they fit pretty well!

    Pocket bike powered bicycle revisited

I did a run today with a speedometer app (not sure how accurate it actually is) and my top speed if 43km/h which is plenty fast for this bike! I definitely get a few looks while I'm driving it! Everyone asking what the heck it is! Anyways, I'm pleased with how it is turning out. On an unrelated...

I have lights! Just a simple setup with a couple leftover LEDs and a battery pack from an old rc car.

That would be a good idea, but my brake bracket is mounted there.. Only solid place I could mount it.. I might end up welding something to the forward down tube so that my feet are a little bit ahead of the jackshaft (another reason to make chain guards!).

I have some bmx pegs on the rear (as you can see in the pic) for now until I figure out a more permanent solution. A chain guard is definitely in the works! I'm sure glad I put extra cushioning in that seat though! If I wasn't already snipped, this bike would definitely vibrate my chances of...

    Pocket bike powered bicycle revisited

Well, its been a little while but I have the jackshaft complete! I've taken the bike on a few runs and it works pretty well! Not the fastest thing in the world, but I built it more for show than anything! Maybe later on I will get a few performance parts for the engine and possibly even a proper...

I do believe it is one like this.. Im not sure the brand because there are no markings at all on the bike.. I think there might of been but when I painted it decades ago I probably sanded any stickers off that might of been there.. From the research I have done I think it might be a Norco...

10,000 kms per tank! :roflol: I will probably try to finish my original tank eventually, but this one is ok for now! I have a video of the engine running that I will post soon.. It's a bit loud!! Thats ok though since I will be driving around the hangar mostly (i'm an aircraft mechanic)

    Pocket bike powered bicycle revisited

Hey guys, it's been almost 3 years since I posted on here last! My original post is here: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=23384 I've had this bike sitting undone in my garage for a while now and I decided since work is slow at the moment, I would bring it in to work and try to...

Well I just got home and thought I'd redo the gas tank.. I think this looks much better, and will be a lot easier to make..

    Pocket bike powered bicycle

I am away at work right now, but I think when I get home, I might attempt a smaller tank mock up, something similar to this: to fit here: (see pic on bottom) That was originally my plan from the beginning, but It seemed too small. I guess it is only a small engine that dosen't use that much gas..

Wow! that's quite the front forks! And you're right.. 40km/h is a bit of a stretch.. I think the engine should be suffecient for this bike, it is a pretty small bike to begin with, and I am only 170 lbs. I just want to get it all together and do some tweaking as I go. Thanks for the advice so far!

    Pocket bike powered bicycle

Now that I look at the pics, the tank does seem pretty big.. Maybe i'll make one that fits between the upper tube and the Middle ones just above the engine. I'm not expecting a bunch of power from that engine, but it should be OK.. I can always change the gearing if need be, or get a higher...

    Pocket bike powered bicycle

Hey guys, I've posted pics of this bike quite a while back with a whipper snipper motor mocked up, but I've finally moved forward ever so slightly with this project. I made up a motor mount which still needs to be welded in, and a cardboard gas tank mock-up. I will probably use aluminum for the...
