New guy here... Morgan-esque 3 wheeler

Just stopping by. Haven't made much progress. Been practicing my welds.... They are strong enough, but still less than attractive. More practice is needed..... As an aside, I did get to go out to Dallas Karting Complex on Sunday. We went out with the Miata club when they First opened in 2011...

Glad I could be of assistance :) As far as the steel frame-- that is my intent. That said, the 4 wheeled Morgans do have Ash wood frames. Somewhat incredible.

Thanks for the Jackshaft Calculator! 10/ 18/ 13/ 60 Gets me a 9.33 ratio. ($44+$43+$20ish) A bit more than I wanted to spend. Surely there is a cheaper way/ source...

is there a table for figuring this out? i'm not sure what to search for, maybe you can help direct me... Looking at 5/8" bore clutches, the 10/11 tooth variations are more plentifull( and cheaper)...

I'm a bit lost here. If I follow you, the engine would have a 12 tooth centrifugal clutch leading to a shaft with a 12 tooth gear on one side, powering a 10 tooth gear leading to a 40 tooth gear on the wheel?

The gearing appears too low, but could it be multiplied with a home-made jackshaft...... couple bearings, a rod, and 2 more gears......

I've been around forums long enough to not create Zombie threads..... my statement was more of an explanation as to why I wasn't asking the OP And, as I speak.... What are the thoughts on this? 10" rear wheel...... http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/tag/4196010614.html These look to be the...

http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3397 Can anyone ID that gearing? I'm wondering if I could use the largest gear from a bike (53 tooth or so) as my wife's cousins have offered any extra bike parts I need...... Never mind. #35 chain is a lot heavier duty. That won't work. Argh...

here is an back view of the morgan showing that big rear wheel, and a profile shot of another 3 wheeler. I like the general shape of the red 3 wheeler, that's where I would like to head if I can get this off the ground.....

Wow!!! Thanks for all the input. the "esque" is I want to make something with a similar look and feel, but I'm not making a copy. I'm not going for exact scale. I think to best maximize what I have I need to use a smaller rear wheel, more 'cart' sized. Poboy hit it on the head with my plan...

That's for checking, i'll fiddle with it when the new spring gets here. Suggestions on rear drive wheel anyone? I'd like to have a size to work with as I figure out the frame.....

New guy here... Morgan-esque 3 wheeler

Could someone suggest a rear wheel to me? I'm not sure what would be best for my application..... Also, my original thought for the frame was 14 gauge 1" tubing. Am I on the right track there, or do you think a 3/4" might work better? I don't want to over engineer this too much as I don't want...

My thought for the motor over the wheel was overall length of the kart, but that may be a non issue. The existing throttle is a rusted solid wire POS. My wife's cousins are into bicycles and I bet have extra cabling about. A friend donated his son's old bmx bike to 'the cause'. These will end...
