Sleeves weren't needed for this application.

If you have a power source for SMAW, you can get a TIG torch and some gas, teach yourself or otherwise learn how to do scratch-start TIG. No need for fancy/expensive inverters - just a couple hundred bucks for gas and torch. I built the Spidercarts Tarantula almost entirely with this method...
