Honestly idk.. I have never had one of these engines, but if it starts off slow and then all of a sudden takes off at top speed then that would be a clutch issue.. It sounds like it is not engaging correctly.. Is it a 4 speed? It could be that the clutch cable is adjusted wrong and does not...

Doesn't sound like you have any lag to me, sounds like a clutch problem.. I wouldn' take the governor off of a 2 stroke because it is already running at plenty of rpm's.. but that's just my opinion

Probably not gonna remove the governor on this one.. This engine cost me too much money to have it rip a hole in my cylinder.. What exactly do you mean when you say "deck the head" never heard that one before :confused::confused:

I guess it would depend on the year and model.. I have a briggs 7 horse that I lined the dots up perfectly only to find out that the timing was off.. Then I was told by a certified small engine mechanic that the piston has to be at the top of the cylinder when the dots align or timing will be...

I read a lot of reviews and watched videos of on youtube.. The engine seems strong and well built but my question was more along the lines of is it big enough to move this bike around or will I burn it up.. I looked into the options of getting a bigger bike engine locally but they are way over...

The piston has to be top dead center in the cylinder when the dots are aligned on the cam shaft otherwise your timing will be screwed up

Try spraying some started fluid in the carb.. If you already did that and no go, then try adjusting the idle screw out a half turn or turn and see if it starts, and then while it is running adjust it back until it idles smooth.. You may try a new spark plug, and also test for spark, sometimes...

Thanks r-chez those links were helpful, I should be able to fab up a decent adapter out of some alluminum stock.. Those carbs are much cheaper than the Mikuni's, now im not so worried about if it will work or not

Hey guys, I picked up an old AMF Harley on road / off road dirt bike for cheap.. The bike had been sitting outside for some time and the engine, electronice, and tires are a wreck..
