Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Hot as in real hot. Too hot to touch except briefly and it only takes seconds. ---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 AM ---------- I have the back end off the ground and it still heats up pretty fast. Not having prior experience with mini's and 3-wheelers, I...

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Okay Sid, Yesterday I removed the TAV2 and gave it a good cleaning. Re-installing a piece at a time, I checked the bearings (5/8") on the driven shaft and they seem okay. Shafts are parallel and perpendicular to the mounting face. I added and subtracted shims on the driver and could not find a...

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Sid, At present I have aTAV2 frthe chain runs to a 28om BMI with 10T#41 chain. From the 10T it runs to a 28T on the jackshaft. The jackshaft out is 10T going to a 60T final drive. That equates to 16.8:1 final drive. Pictures of the machine are in the Timber Wolf thread. ---------- Post added...

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

TC questions for Sid Sid, I have to admit that I am new at this game and would be happy for all the advice you are willing to give. My 3-wheeler build is based on what I have read about others doing. The TAV2 from BMI is not a precision part, just trying to get the thing to work the best I...

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Okay Sid, I have installed the yellow spring and a new belt on the 3-wheeler. It made a difference. Why should I not use the yellow spring? What should I use to get the claimed changes from the yellow spring? Want to stay in lower rpm range longer. I think I found the reason I tossed and broke a...

    What is the best chain?

Whitetrashrocker, thank you for the observation. I had intended to redo my JS and put in a third bearing support. Guess it will be sooner rather than later. When I do I am going to change sprockets and use a smaller final sprocket and a larger JS in sprocket. Want to raise ground clearance...

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Ordered a Comet belt from BMI and a yellow spring for the driven. I am also going to raise the jackshaft to allow me to run the disc brake rotor and a larger JSin sprocket. Then I will use a smaller sprocket on the axle to give more ground clearance while keeping a low ratio.

    What is the best chain?

Everything is in alignment, have an idler for take up, lube chain every other day because of the dirt and silt. I was in the middle of a left hard turn, putting more weight on the drive wheel, and cranked the throttle on and it snapped at the master link. The whole chain and sprockets have less...

    What is the best chain?

Just snapped the main link and at least one link of the chain. Chain is Chinese from Tractor Supply. What is a strong #41 chain for my 3-wheeler? Didn't think the Predator Hemi had this much torque.

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

I straight edged the backing plates and had to add one thin washer to the driver to align. Used to be a machinist and still have my tools, would not want to have to buy them today. Everything seems to be working fine now.

    Atomic Zombie Timber Wolf

I tried with the recumbent seat first and decided that it would be nice on a street trike, but less nice in the dirt where 90% of my riding will be.

The odor of burning belt is gone, do all new belts wear in?

Is it the red spring thing or gearing?

Pictures are on the Atomic Zombie thread. I have changed my thoughts that I am not geared low enough, dug a hole with the drive wheel and had to toss s piece of concrete in the hole to move forward. The Dirt Devil tires really dig. I have the red spring ine the torque hole and it seems to go...

    Atomic Zombie Timber Wolf

I rode to our local village, around 10 miles max. The coil spring has the right rate and I can go top speed over most bumps, rides like a Caddie. Was thinking my final gear ratio was not low enough (16.68:1), but now I think it is okay. Have made changes already on some minor issues. Working...
