    Power effeciency of an ICE?

Yea, that's what we call an explosion! ;)

    Power effeciency of an ICE?

so when a car gets 100hp max, that means it gets 100hp "at the wheels?" and may be getting 15-30% more if there were no losses at the drive-train and waste heat produced?

    Power effeciency of an ICE?

So, when a car is measured at the wheels by a dynamometer, would it be 100hp max with the fictional engine I stated, or would the dynamometer show 15hp? Are the dynamometers pre-adjusted for that?

    Power effeciency of an ICE?

I have been told by individuals that a gasoline powered engine, lets say a 100hp MAX engine, only %15 of that 100hp power actually goes to the wheels and moves the wheels. Is this correct? If that is correct, you are actually driving a 15hp vehicle instead of the 100hp at the crankshaft. That...

A question on gearing on EV's.

it's not so much acceleration, Its the attainable top speed that I'm interested in. I know that more volts means more max rpm. but even a 72 volt system (72 rpm per volt) will get me 5,184 rpm max with the motor I want. That sounds good and all, but 1st gear in my truck is maybe 35mph before the...

A question on gearing on EV's.

I hear that many electric cars have one gear. That's easy to understand. But I read about some EV's that can have custom gears installed to have achieve increased speeds. But at the same time, I hear that having any sort of transmission used with an electric motor isnt nessesary. Maybe I'm just...

    Yatzee! I scored nicely!

My brothers buddy has this broken down AVT that he has sitting in his shed. He doesn't want it anymore and was just going to get rid of it. I told him I was interested in it for the tires and other parts. Guess how much he's gonna sell it to me for......Fifty Bucks! Today, my brother and I took...

Why are electric kart tires small?

I'm going to use a 60 volt system with a max draw of 100amps. Whats the reccomended size to get the best speed and torque? I'd like to hit 70mph max, but then again, I'm a dreamer. I'm thinking about going with 16" tires, with a wide-base for traction. I plan to use this street-legal kart for...

    Some questions on motor Controllers-

I was wondering, is there some website where I can learn how motor controllers work? I mean how are they able to channel so much current to the motor without burning up? Also, when a controller needs a seperate 12v supply, can I use a much smaller 12volt battery like something you would get at...

Why are electric kart tires small?

Just wondering why I see that most karts, both electric and gasoline powered, have such small diameter tires. Is it to keep the speed down? Is it to reduce build cost? Easier on the motor? Or simply tradition. Thanx-

    Street-legal electric go kart/car

That'd be great! With 60-inchers in the back, and 10 inchers in the front, that'd be a hoot! I'd get pulled over for sure, either It's illegal, or the cop wanted to get a closer look at the rig :)

    Street-legal electric go kart/car

Actually, after reading this battery faq: http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm#Cycles%20vs%20Life I've decided to go with a AGM battery. The battery I'm gonna use is at this link: http://www.nationalsolarsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=175 Also, If I use larger...

    Street-legal electric go kart/car

how about the voltage? Surely I can find one that can do 60 volts and maybe 5 amps? If thats the case I can wire 20 of them togeather in parallel to protect them and get the desired effect. A lot of work, but a controller just isnt what I want to play with now-

    Street-legal electric go kart/car

Well for now, my work is a 30 mile round trip and from what I'm hearing that'll be stretching it a bit. Most likely I'll be using this kart just to goto the store, fast food joint, and other close-by places to give my truck a rest. I know the importance of not draining batteries completely...

    Street-legal electric go kart/car

Btw, I wont be using a controller. They are too expensive where I can find a fat potenteometer. I just hope I can find one that can handle the max amps. The goal of the CVT is to get more speed without the motor having to run at max RPM to do so. I want to make this motor last for a long time.
