So how hard is it to install a torque converter? Like I said I don't know much about karts at all. I bought this one for my kids for $400.

I found a clutch with a built in key and put it on. It slid right on perfect but its getting real hot and smoking.

What do you mean live axle? And how would I put a torque converter on it?

After driving it for 10 seconds I took the clutch off and noticed the shaft has some discoloration.

I'm new to this go kart stuff. I bought it from a guy but I wanted to get a new motor for it since the last one was leaking oil bad.

Yesterday when I had it running with the key that came with the clutch I noticed small sparks were coming off as I would press the gas.

It slides all the way back if I use the key that came with the clutch. Its about 1/4 of the size in length of the key that came with the motor but it starts grinding and smoking. Like the engine shaft is spinning inside the clutch

Hmm ill try that. Because I tried to use the key that came with the clutch and put it on the shaft but then it started grinding and smoking when I gave it some gas.

No but the little slot for the key isn't very long. So the key hits the end of the slot on the clutch and hits the shaft slot as well. The clutch isn't supposed to have the key slot all the way through is it? I feel like if it was all the way then the clutch would slide all the way on the shaft...
