While I don't want to spend a fortune on this thing, I'm not SO worried about cost only because this will be a pretty drawn out project. My son is only four so he can't even drive it yet.

So I couldn't weld a motor mount in place of the jackshaft mount and just have the sprocket to the outside of the frame and run a clutch and chain straight to the axle?

The tires on the front I'm guessing are just some wheelbarrow tires someone threw on but the size is 4.00x6.
I would like a more low profile street tire that matches the rear.

The tube is 30 inches from end to end but I don't have any bearings with it.
The axle was removed years ago by who knows who so basically what's in the picture is all I have.
Do you have a link to the video you are referring to?
I have searched everywhere I can think and haven't seen any examples of an axle like this where it goes through the tube.
I'm new to go karts but have some backyard mechanic experience.
