Sounds like fuel starvation to me. The clutch would disengage if rpms dropped to the point of stalling, wouldn't it?

If I understand him right it doesn't die right away, the bowl would drain fairly quick at WOT.

Larger fuel tank (taller) would prevent this, if the fuel pick up is kinda down in a sump.

Does it bog down and stall, or sputter and stall.. My best guess is that centrifugal force is pulling the fuel away from the pick up. This is why it dies one way but not the other. Just my .02.
