How did I do this to my clutch???

It may have been a combination of the chain being a bit tight and a mis-alignment of the sprocket and clutch. I noticed when I took the chain off that it appeared that the sprocket had moved slightly on the axle. The new clutch is on the way. I'll make sure everything is aligned and that there...

How did I do this to my clutch???

I've destroyed my clutch. The first attached picture shows the bushing ripped up. In the second picture (I apologize for the focus) you can see that it appears the that teeth have been slightly rounded. Is this a sign that my chain was too tight? It was a bit loose originally, causing the chain...

How to secure break & sprocket to axle?

Alright, got a few hose clamps last night. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

How to secure break & sprocket to axle?

I have a kart that locks the break and sprocket to the axle using small rectangular "keys". But there is nothing to secure them in place and they can move on their "track" on the axle. If they slide out I lose my engine or my breaks. I saw someone mention using locktite to basically glue them...

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

Got it. Would it be considered normal for a new clutch put off a bit of smoke after heating up during the first few runs?

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

I'm fine with that answer. In fact, it's probably the one I was hoping to see. But, never having had a kart before I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything that might be causing damage to the clutch or the engine. Thanks. How often do you guys find it necessary to oil the bushing on the...

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

I don't recall seeing anything in my engine manual about changing the idle speed. I'll look again. What would be the consequence of oiling more than the bushing?

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

Yes, still engaging and working. I just notice that when the kart is cold I can roll it pretty easily when the engine is off but after several runs when it warms up the kart is more difficult to roll freely and the clutch seems to be heating up pretty good. It seems to help if I oil it a bit...

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

First - thanks to everyone here who helped me get through this build. I had no idea what I was doing when I started this thing and I would not have made it this far without the help I found here. Thanks! Runs well. My kids (and their friends) love it. One more question as long as I'm here: I...

    Newbie Engine Behavior Question

Sorry, but what does "the idle is set to the clutch" mean?

    Newbie Engine Behavior Question

So, once connected, if I were to pull the cord and start this engine the kart would take off on me? or does the load of the kart (once the chain is on) keep it in place?

    Newbie Engine Behavior Question

Yep, I have a centrifugal clutch that spins. But, even when I take the clutch off the drive shaft itself spins. Normal (even at idle)?

    Newbie Engine Behavior Question

I fear this is a really dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway: When I start my engine and it's idling, should I expect the drive shaft to be spinning? I was thinking that in "idle" the kart would not move but if I start it without any load (i.e. chain not attached) it's spinning pretty...

    Ugh - Another setback

Alright, I tried the grabit and it just couldn't get ahold of the screw so I took it to a local automotive shop and a guy there got it out using an easy-out. Thanks for all the suggestions.

    Ugh - Another setback

My father-in-law has an Alden Grabit that I'm going to try. The don't think the bolt was too long but it may have been close. What are the potential issues if it was too long?
