Well I loosened the engine mount bolts and moved it forward to tighten up the chain. Took it for another test drive a few minutes ago and the bolt loosened up on me again. This time it lasted about 30 yards...
Just took it for a test drive and the bolt did not loosen itself, but the chain came off. I am thinking the chain is too loose and its jumping off the sprocket.
i have the bolt that says what the crankshaft is threaded for. I am putting enough loctite to get all the threads. By wiggly, I mean i can move the bolt up, down, and to the sides. but the farther I go into the shaft, the more stable the bolt gets. It is weird. The bolt does not come loose while...
tomorrow, I am going to run by home depot or lowes and get a longer bolt to see if that helps any. It seems the bolt is a little wiggly where its at right now, which I think could be causing it to rattle loose.
I just dont get how the bolt could still be loosening itself. I have the right hardware, i have a lock washer, and I have loctite on the bolt. Doesn't make any sense!!!
I got everything put back together and the bolt is still backing out. I got the correct set screws and key stock. I put everything back on yesterday and let the loctite sit till i got home from work today ( 20 or so hours ). I literally went about 20 yards and the bolt loosened and the chain...
yeah I am going to check ACE Hardware tomorrow. Lowes and Home Depot had set screws all around the size I needed, but did not have the size I needed. Doesn't that just make you mad....
the bolt is 3/8x24. I have right bolt. I got some key stock, so I am going to cut what I need and put that in there. Does that bolt that's there instead of the other set screw going to make a difference. Its the same size and everything it just has a head...
I am going to get correct set screw, some key stock, and re-do everything including making sure the cranshaft is dry when I put loctite on the bolt to hold the drum on. I will try to do this tomorrow after class, and i will test drive it again tuesday to see how it goes. Hopefully this will fix it.
