The only reason I had a TIG for years was the ability to switch back and forth between steel and aluminum with essentially a flick of the switch and maybe swap of the tungsten versus MIG, and lack of spatter. I'd love a MIG unit that does steel and aluminum though.
I'd have to dig through old hard drives. It was ~15 years ago or so, but it was a conversion on a 94 4runner. cut the IFS out and added leaves with an '85 yota front axle from a junkyard. That thing was fun. The 3vze v6 was a dog, but indestructable.
So I found with a tig welder using a larger cup (#10) and screen actually cut down on my argon use and made for better welds. I am no pro, but did a ton of reading back when I bought a hobart unit I had years ago. Wishing I didn't sell it.
I have a 390 i've been deliberating putting on my manco. Do I need more revs out of it, or just 'stage 1' air filter, carb jet, and exhaust upgrade? Currently getting about 25-30 out of a 212 stage 1 with CVT.
I watched the miata video and it looks like he's using air-actuated solenoids.
And yeah I had those similar concerns....but Koenigsegg uses them in ultra cars. I suspect he's done thorough testing on them.
