    Electric motor based Dyno build

My day job is product development. I started as a mechanical engineer but spent a lot of time doing digital electronics. This motor control stuff is new for me, but not PCB layout and what not.

    Electric motor based Dyno build

Next installment about blowing up electronic parts is up! This week I blew up my control board, fixed and ended making some progress. You can check it out on YouTube

That's a good point. It's good for testing as the engine is easier to start, but once things are working I will remove it. That's a great suggestion.

    Electric motor based Dyno build

I got an engine attached to the dyno and running. The control electronics need some work though. I decided to do a video update this time. You can check it out on YouTube.

    Electric motor based Dyno build

That's a ton of watts. I really don't know the best way to go. I wouldn't know how to build one so I'd buy it, but for that many watts it wouldn't be cheap. Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help.

    Electric motor based Dyno build

Thanks, I'm 85% sure this will work. I have a few days off to work on it starting tomorrow. The only way I know how to learn stuff is try, break it and figure out why it broke :ROFLMAO: 700HP? Might be overkill for a daily driver lol. I've noticed a trend here with all the EVs on the road...

    Electric motor based Dyno build

Until it works, it's just a bunch of parts sitting on a table :ROFLMAO:

    Electric motor based Dyno build

So I've been working on the dyno when I can. I have the electric motor mounted with the load sensor. I figured out the internal temperature sensors in the motor are PT1000 as well. Unfortunately the rpm/position sensor in the motor is a resolver which is too complicated to implement just to get...

    Electric motor based Dyno build

I'd suggest buying one and it depends on the total power you need. What are you running?

    Electric motor based Dyno build

I got a chance to test the control method today with a smaller electric motor. Worked great. With a PWM signal to the mosfets I can control the resistance (braking force) and it's very smooth. Next step is to finish the mechanical assembly. Once that's done I'll work on the electronics. I...

    Electric motor based Dyno build

I did a bunch of research into home built dyno's. There are a lot of options and the simplest is probably something based on a motorcycle brake. For me though, I want something that can run continuously at 10kW or there abouts. I started playing with some numbers and a hydraulic based system...

High Compression GX200 - Oil blowing out valve cover, gas blowing out the carb

The brake dyno is quick for sure. My idea is to not just have a dyno but a setup that can load an engine for extended periods for break in and simulation of some track conditions. I'm aiming for $500 budget, but things add up quick. Here it's often easier to just buy parts than hack them...

High Compression GX200 - Oil blowing out valve cover, gas blowing out the carb

Just a quick update. Things at the track got a bit complicated. Business wasn't good and my mechanic friend changed jobs. Tuning at the track alone is less fun and the pricing is such that if I do a few test laps I have to pay the $25 fee. I was letting the mechanic do the testing until things...

Designing a connecting rod, I'd love some insights on how stock rods fail etc.

That is a prety sweet engine. I saw he replaced the crank shaft. the one he took out had a hole for oil in the crank under the connecting rod. That does look like a good way to get oil to the connecting rod

I think you mentioned that in one of the early messages. That was part of the inspiration for trying to add the shells. It also give me pretty good hope that it will work. :)
