im thinking of making a minibike from some of my old gokart parts, like clutch sprocket ect.
i was going to see if i could pick up a cheap briggs 5hp or similar, either running or has a small problem. this would help me learn more about engines, as i havent fixed an engine with a bigger problem than a recoil would a 5hp be ok, and what wheels do you suggest. i was thinking doodlebug design oh, and quite ghetto

Doodlebug design, or just go nuts and build a chopper. Go-kart parts should work fine, if you have a wheel with a sprocket already on it.

i have a google sketchup design. i will post tomorrow, as i am going to bed now. i saw a cheapish briggs on ebay, but im letting it go. i preferably want a honda, cos my dad says briggs arent as good, and can be a **** to start. wat do u think (i dont want a "carb problemd" teccy!)

calculated it out for your self. what speed/power would you get from a gx100 pulling yourself and the bike. i say it would be enough

i was probably going to use the sprocket and clutch from my gokart, 16t-93t, but im not sure if the chain is long enough, so i might go for a crude direct drive setup, or make a simple clutch on a lathe? maybe not heres the pic. i no the tubing is massive i am now thinking could i make a manual clutch? or even belt drive?

I always use the sprockets and chains from tecnobots (0.5inch) for anything over 2hp because smaller ones might have a risk of breaking. Judging from your last few threads though i dont think you like tecnobots products :biggrin5:

are you kidding!! briggs are great engines all mine are very easy to start sometime one pull if you pull all the way back. i don't have much experience with the new ones but the older ones can shure take a beating and still be very reliable

My dad may have just had a bad expierience then. I might use belt drive now with belt tensioner setup. No I don't like technobots as the sprockets are mild steel. Also they are not keyed and don't go in to many teeth

......That might be a fun setup.
You can "slip the clutch" to keep revs up when climbing hills,
or standing start take-offs.

Okay I am still thinking of building this thing, as a mate from school may be selling me
2 engines non running for £10 about 3hp or something. If I can get
1 running I will probably build this, but I was
wondering where to find a suitable belt and pulleys?

Northern is dropping the majority of their kart parts line, their prices are 50/50 on the good bad scale and their only bonus for beginners is the fact they have a liberal return policy in person.

I love looking around the stores and have nothing against them but they price things so oddly!

Any idea of where in the uk? I found some belts on eBay but not
pulleys

Should be getting engines this weekend. I don't know how much power they will have if I can get them going, but I hope more than 3hp. I am planning for this to be under £50, engine£10, belt £5. Pulleys, turn on a lathe. Maybe buy for the axle/wheel. Wheels £10-20. brakes ghetto scrub or minimoto £5. Steel £5-10. make everything else, like forks, tensioner etc. I have drawn a design and will post it soon.

BMI has ridiculous shipping prices though. It keeps me from ordering from them. MFGSupply has much better shipping rates.
