Lol are teacher made us learn and draw each part of the engine before we could touch an engine but I guess it didn't really stick to some students and it got even worse when we went to work only a handful including me could have an eninge running the same day we got it

I know how you feel. At my school we build LS7 Big Block Chevy motors and we work in pairs and I'm with the biggest idiot ever.

In my class (Industrial mechanics and welding) we have some idiots, and some people that just piss me off because they have no respect for anything. Most of the time the Aluminum Tig is contaminated, i've seen people try to weld steel with the aluminum tig, the other day one kid tried to drill a hole through a piece of 3/4 aluminum with a center drill... All this makes me look like a pro machinist tho haha, so its all good, my teacher was impressed that i knew how to chuck something into the lathe haha.

Then we have the idiots who break stuff and have no respect for the tools, recently a couple kids cut up the sifter we use for the bead blaster, so they could use it as a screen in their bowls... people steeling brass fittings to make bowls. One kid (same one who cut the screens), i recently saw welding on a decent (prolly $20) piece of square stock...just because he could.

I hate kids like that, have have no respect for other kids trying to learn. No one at my school touches the TIG without asking and he doesn't let idiots use it. One time in small engines class I opened a fuel tank on a snow blower and said "#$%@ this gas smells rotten!" So some kid gets out his lighter and lights it RIGHT beside the fuel tank just to see what would happen. Thank god that gas was sitting for about 4 years. Also Kaptain, You have a specific TIG just for aluminum? Or is it just to make it simple for the kids to not switch the machine from Alum-Steel?

well we have two tigs, one is normally set up for stainless/mild steel and the other is for aluminum. i guess its just for simplicity, changing electrodes and stuff all the time would get to be a pain, especially since so many different people use them. Every tool besides the lath/milling machines are basically open to anyone in the class without having to ask, because he wants people to practice. Me and like 1 other can use anything without having to ask, but thats just because he knows that we know enough to not brake anything.

So he lets kids pick up a TIG welder not even knowing what it is with a 5 minute lesson and have at it? It doesn't work that way at my school. We all work on the same thing in welding class. Where just finishing up Oxy-Acetylene welding and soon getting into ARC welding.

It is kind of dumb, but can be nice too. Our class is not specifically welding, so we basically work on our own projects (or if your being lazy and screwin around work on projects for the teacher), and along the way we have to get good at using the different tools.

For instance I'm bringing my go kart into the shop to put a roll cage on, because i don't have a tubing bender at my house. My friend was going to bring in one of his sleds to rebuild the engine and do some other minor repairs. next year we all get to choose a senior project, and we can work in groups. For mine I'm thinking either an incredibly overpowered electric vehicle, or a 440 power vehicle of some sorts, because i should be getting a free 90' or 91' jag that has a good 440 fan.

As long as your not in grade 9 there isn't really any Jr/Sr levels in my school in the shops. I have Small engines, Auto Mechanics, Auto Body, Welding, But still have English, Math, Science, Geography. Thank goodness for trade schools huh? My friends school has only 4 classes a day and its the same crap everyday.

He got stitches and didn't show for a week and I got suspended and almost got sued for assault but I got out of it thanks to my shop teacher.

And hell yea Tyler makes the day go by faster but do you guys get certifications and engine systems and such?

I have certification on small engines, automotive suspension diesel equipment and basic fabrication I just need to get ASE certified and finish highschool to get a job.
