From my research, the unique power curve of these rotary kart engines seems to really help karts put more power to the ground without wheel spin. The power curve of piston-type race kart engines with similar power levels tend to cause more wheel spin resulting in slower lap times.

I also learned that Norton built a rotary powered race bike back in 1993.

Suzuki made a rotary powered bike in the 70s, wasnt a big hit i think it only went for 2 years before they stopped making them. Called the RE 5, cool looking bikes but i hear the gas milage wasnt the best.

Yeah I remember seeing one of those Suzuki's around but I'd never dreamed Norton experimented with rotorys. I'd imagine some other brands of bikes did some R&D with the design too.


Back In the 70's I can remember guys saying the Wankel design would completly replace the piston engine within 20 years...

Rx2, Rx3, Rx4, Q100, mazda "rotary power pickup", Rx7, Euno cosmo, Rx8, Lemans racer mazda 787b and some suzuki bike had rotary engines including a crap load of lawn mowers.

is that called torque by chance?

but i have to agree rotary's are cool easier to get power out of than a 4 cylinder. no pistons, no valves, no problems yeah right thats just one of the rotor tuning shops slogan around here.

Less of a chance for failure then a i/c engine but comes down to to tuning just like any other engine

Yes and they dont have diesel rotorys and i cant work on a rotary it confuses me to badly ill stick with any carbed v8! I know how carbs work...kinda. anything fuel injected makes my head hurt.

They actually do have a diésel rotary and there aré carbed rotarys being raced dude building it is moré simple then a pistón engine but tuning is a biotch.
