Linkage help with Briggs and Stratton

I got this engine for a cheap price but I noticed that the carburetor was missing some linkages and I can't find any videos.

Are you trying to adapt it to vehicle use (minibike, go kart)? What size engine is it? It looks like a 5HP but the fuel tank looks tiny and atypical for a 5HP.

Your engine looks like it is a mixmaster of different parts. I see an older blower shroud with a newer carburetor and fuel tank, but I could be wrong. Yours appears to be missing a large oval piece of wire (shaped like a paper clip) that connects to the peg on the throttle control.

That oval piece of wire can be seen at 1:39 in this video but he has a much larger fuel tank that has the facility for a vehicle throttle assembly under the fuel tank...

You can *bypass the governor and connect a cable directly to the throttle using the Briggs Raptor Throttle Kit. The kit is not designed for your particular rotary choke Pulsa-Jet carburetor but you can adapt it to fit. Takes a little bit of work which may or may not be worth it in 2025 where attention spans are even shorter and gumption is in short supply....

Here's mine from the thread with it marked up to show how the cable is connected to the brass colored bellcrank.


Cyan: throttle cable

*By bypassing the governor, I mean connecting directly to the carburetor but I also mean removing the governor entirely which requires exploratory surgery (going inside the crankcase).

Got a photos of the overall engine; front, side and back? Would love to see what you have but Briggs & Stratton flathead engines are well-made, reliable and worth it, I think, to get running.

Did you ever get this fixed? You should have named the purpose. We thought it was go kart or minibike related.

There’s illustrations on page 27+ chapter 3 in this manual that shows the “paperclip". May be clear as mud but these manuals were written for high IQ mechanics.

The under-tank control would be ideal because it can be vehicle control or static (set it and leave it).
