Yey or Nay

Folks,

Just scored a NIB Lifan 9 hp with electric start for an embarrassingly low price. I plan to use it to replace my stage 1.43 Predator hemi. I'm hoping that my carb and exhaust and such will fit. It has a 1 inch crank but I just happen to have a CVT that will fit.

Did I do good?

Yey or nay?

Thanks.

Depends on the embarrassingly low price of course. Where’s the pics and the receipt?

This is an internet photo. It's a 270cc engine. Bad news is that carb and manifolds for Predator 212 parts do not fit--different mounting stud widths. There is a possibility that a carb and manifold from a Honda GX200 may fit, or even one from a predator 420--more investigation and measuring required. I'd like to have a Nibbi slide style carb if I can find one. Had very good luck with them in the past. If not, I'll keep the stock carb and look for main jet upgrades. Either way, I should pick up 3 to 5 hp over my current hemi Predator (plus 'lectric start)

Figured as much. I think the rule of thumb is any two engines being compared for interchangeability, the displacement must be very close or match. And they have to be the same type. I can’t recall at the moment but I think Lifan may be a Honda clone manufacturer, meaning 99% of parts interchange with Honda so you might be right, it could be a Honda clone.

Hellion,

I'm hoping you are right. I'll call some pros tomorrow and make sure. I can live with 9hp, but I'd like more. Just a guess, but I think I'm already getting about 9 out of my Predator with a 24 mm carb, 18 pound springs, and freed up exhaust. The electric start is a big deal for me. I hate starting that thing and having it die before I can scramble into the seat. It'll start and idle perfectly for a week or so, then die every time for a while just to vex me.

I know on the CG engine, Honda couldn't keep up with production so they gave Lifan the plans and green light to make them.
Lifan is a major engine maker for the world except Us.
I would assume that parts are going to be the same as the gx270 and derp301. The smaller of the big block design.
That electric start is a bonus.

Thanks, I hope so. I prefer slide carbs. I understand them and once the governor and silly linkage is off they perform much better than those stock abominations they put on stationary industrial engine.

I can weld up an exhaust system.

Now I'm gonna scout the for sale rules on this site for my Murray Kilowatt. I got it going well, but the little cart is just more all around fun. Plus I think there is a law in TX limiting one individual (married) man's piston count. I'm sitting at 39 and am am pretty sure the law caps me at 38 (including veteran's exemption)--the Kilowatt has to go.

Although I think there may be an special exemption for log splitters and/or pressure washers (have to check with my accountant tomorrow).

Wadda you think a Kilowatt with a strong 420, 32mm pwk carb new LED 40 series clutch, strong battery, lights, air shocks, and very good tires might be worth?

The plot thickens. The damn thing does not fit the mounting footprint. I could make it fit but it's just too much trouble. Should have done some more research. Sigh...

Stock photos are cute, no doubt I can show you my mega yacht with chopper landing pad and totally convince you it’s mine. 😇
Oh ye of little faith... an actual picture of the thing, two in fact:

Wheres my glasses?

Lol funnily enough, I opened that picture and reached for them..
Wonder how that happened? One picture is pretty clear and the other is pretty fuzzy. Guess either my photo technique needs a little work, or maybe I shouldn't drink so much so early in the morning.

And, I've decided to probably put the slightly oversize Lifan 9hp engine in the Fox Hornet anyway. Gonna take some cutting, grinding, welding, sweating, and swearing, but WTH--horsepower is horsepower. I know I can buy a pre fab mounting plate but that feels like cheating.

First though, I have to figure out which Honda GX parts will fit the Lifan. Not really worth it if I can't find some hot rod parts. I think its a GX270 clone, but am not sure yet.
