Had to put down my best little buddy today. His name was Sammy and was my best friend for almost 18 years. Dogs bring us so much joy, and when the end comes, it is tough, but totally worth the pain and hurt trying to get over it. We still have two more with us, and they both seem confused now that he didn't return home. We rescued him in 2011, a cocker spaniel, and quickly became my garage buddy, couch buddy and best friend. The last few weeks have been hard, trying to keep him happy, and comfortable. But today, we just knew it was time. He would have loved all of you guys and loved when my dad, family, friends and neighbors or anyone would come over and hang with us garage and have a bourbon and just hang out! So, if you can, raise a glass to Sammy!!!!!!!!!! :cheers2: 🐶

That is good that you have a family of fur buddies. Good on you for that, because if it’s a sole dog, they leave a huge hole when they pass away.

Thinking about it more, I’d rather have a pup pass away among his peers so they understand and can process it and on that note a buddy of mine never puts his dogs down. He made a personal vow a long time ago to take care of them until natural causes took them so he gets them meds, painkillers and whatever they need to live to a really ripe old age. Canines do give us so much. He was even carrying one dog outside to answer the call of nature. Dog could still walk but not the entire route and back again. 🥲

That's what we have been doing for months now. The last few days he could barely move. He lived an extra year at least because of my wifes daily care. We thought he would pass at home for weeks. That is what we wanted, but he was suffering and could barely breath. It was time.......................

That sucks and I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve had to do it and for me the loss is almost unbearable. I look forward to the day that I see them again. Just be thankful for the time the good lord gave us with them. Smile when you think about them.

Sorry for your loss. I had to put down our 10 year old Shepard " Maggie " Thursday of last week. Couldn't believe how hard it was on me. Much worse than any of the others.

I and we (I speak for anyone here that has had a dog) feel your pain. I've had to do it more times than I want to count. Each time I say "never again". But it always seems another dog finds its way into my life again and I am always blessed by their amazing unconditional love.

I too, will raise a glass of Bourbon to Sammy.
