Have you ever been to Atlanta? I did walk into a pawn shop a couple years ago and asked the guy if he had any tools. He just looked at me like I was absolutely insane.
Metro Detroit pawn shops are always full of great tools. Carpenters are always pawning there stuff off. The get rich for a few weeks and blow all there money while missing work and then sell off there tools to get by. I have a few good buddies who are contractors, mostly home improvement, finish and rough carpentry yadda yadda yadda and can barely keep employees. They have a couple loyal and reliable guys, and the rest are there and gone all the time. It is a crazy trade for sure.

Off topic...AGAIN... but I buy guns from pawn shops between seasons, clean them up and sell them back before opening day.

Wifey says I can't have any more gun safes. She says our 12 year old son can't have a safe, either. I gave him a shotgun for Christmas, so now, we both pressure her for more storage.

Don’t tell her, let them magically appear. Like she does with cloths and shoes. Or better yet tell her you’re going to spend the money on hookers and booze. That gun safe won’t look too bad to her then!

What do they have in abundance that’s not tools then? I shudder to ask. I’d say drive x miles out of the city to a more rural working man environ and darken the doors of the pawn shops there.

I already have her convinced that my time and money spent in the garage are better than me hanging in the bars. She does appreciate the firearms, she is a USMC vet, but she thinks 4 safes take up too much space. She likes to go out shooting some times, too, but she seems to think my guns should also be outside in the garage with my other projects. Sometimes, there is just no reasoning with them.

In abundance? I didn't see much. I guess jewelry and the like. Most pawn shops around here are pretty shady. I'll have some bourbon and think about it some more.

I went through the "how many guns do we need" faze a long time ago. My response was always "as many as I can get". A while back I went to a local sporting goods store to get a 64 gun safe and when I got home, the wife was like "we already have gun safes, what the hell!? How many more guns did you get?" I said zero. It's just to store ammo!
Or tacti-cool rifles.
