Maybe one single application for cutting a 4x4 in my realm would be to trim off the extra 1/8" so I can fit the peice in my band saw to make "fancy" corbels. In the past I have used a power planer for this trimming.

Well it's been a week, what did you get?

EDIT: I mean, did you get it? There was only one choice, apparently.

Sorry, folks, but a little maintenance and maybe even some parts for an old saw can often get you better service and performance that spending more money on some new plastic extendable-flexi-sexy 10 inch saw that cuts 4x4's in one pass. That saw must have a cheesy rotary tool 2 inch diameter motor in it. ( please be gentle...I hate spending money.)

I said as much in post #2. We’re a DIY site but we still get newbs here who can’t fix a damn thing and replace a whole damn engine instead of fixing it. What’s worse is they didn’t ask first, they just knee-jerk pulled out their wallet (or Daddy’s wallet). Oops, sorry for the rant. :cornut:

I’m with you as long as it’s feasible and practical.

Ah-ha! Caught you talking about me like I wasn't here. Just built an extension over my front porch, did not need the table saw for that project. I have not yet pulled the trigger because, like Sparkwizard, I am a cheap bastard. But I freely admit it, I am not in therapy for it, and you can't shame-change me. I simply now have the solution on my radar. Maybe the price will drop? Maybe not? Now the thrill of the chase begins. This tool essentially lives under a lean-to, and gets exposure to heat and humidity and bugs and my neglect. Therefore spending big bucks would be futile and a tragedy. There is a method to madness and I've got plenty of madness.

I picked up on of those $200 Ryobi table saws about ten years ago. Doesn't get a ton of use, but enough to say I am shocked at how well she has held up. Only thing I did was get a Diablo blade for it, like I do with all my saws, and cuts like butter when I need it. I use my Rigid miter saw way more, and she's an oldie but goodie. Pawn shops can be your best friend on name brand quality power tools. :cheers2:

Have you hit up the pawn shops and the FB marketplace?

This tool essentially lives under a lean-to, and gets exposure to heat and humidity and bugs and my neglect.

Well you know what you have to do now; Enclose the lean-to. The incentives create themselves.
