Are you pulling the outer part off without removing the snap ring? Can't be. Or is it stuck on there even after pulling the ring? I don't remember it being dangerously strong flying off, but it should push itself off.

Put the little nubbings on the back side in your bench vise.
Then turn the upper sheave against the spring. This will allow the top ramp to drop down on the keyed shaft and give you slack to remove the snap ring with your third hand.

give me a little credit!
I dont remember it being so difficult to get apart. Pushn and twistin didnt work.
Mine looks a bit like yours did in the center, rounded in the center when it should be the double D shape. Took me FOREVER to get it off. Just kept tapping each side a couple times with a small hammer. After about 20 minutes, it popped off.

The whole purpose of dissambling this stuff was to make it work mo bedder. Part of that process was to try a different spring location on the driven. There are 3 different spring locations drilled in the thingy right? well, no
one hole is in the proper spot the other two are not. You can see the holes are drilled so the spring cannot be moved.DSC_0555.JPG

Proper spring placement.

When the spring is in either of the other holes it won't sit flat.

Thats wierd. I drilled my 40. It only had the one to start with.
You can drill new ones a bit off from the botched ones.
I can drill it easy enough, but the question remains, were they drilled wrong or maybe they were drilled wong?
l found out why it took a puller to seperate the pieces. Pics tomorrow. Its dark out now and lma skared of the dark.

There is only one hole that the spring is going into. I thought they were different settings as well. Not sure what those other two holes are actually for. Ive had 3 different drivers like this now. I drilled "the best" I could over those "out of line" holes. Worked out good.

Actually, looking at the picture now, I didnt even drill those out. Just made holes where I wanted.

You can see in my picture, how "out of line" those furthest holes are.

The problems keep adding up. The pic shows the keyway is honked up from the key trying to go round and round.
The material that was pushed outta the way and jammed up the ramp thingy.
It took the 3 jaw to get it apart. Now it wont go back on. Its obvious that this is operating somewhere above the rated HP.
Stay tuned for the hack repair.

Broch 2 new keyways and mill the shaft to match
No broach unfortunately. But yeah that would be an easy repair.
l'll have to resort to desperate measures...

Fill the keyway with weld and file in a new one I bet! I would.
File? Thats like work, that aint happening.

So l have had to pull out the seceret weapon a couple of times with great success.
l was going to get some pics, but after wrestlling with this thing for an hour, the pics got skipped
So who sez a key/keyway has to be square? Round works also, and no broach needed.
in this case i enlarged the key to 5/16 and made it round!
how?
Ya need a ball end mill to run down the "shaft".
There has to be a tight fit or this won't work. So run the ball end mill down the male part, but only as deep as 1/2 the diameter of the key. The key here is a 5/16 dowell pin.
inside diameter of the female part (the ramp thingy) use the same end mill and make a half round keyway, also half the depthof the key.
5/16 key so the depth of the slot on each half should be 5/32. (.3125 & .1562)
If done right the pin should have an interferance fit.
If none of that makes sense, just accept it as the nonsensecal rambling of a lunatic mind...
