Gk200 comet belt

I got my kids a little Coleman for Christmas .. haven't even built it yet, just doing my preliminary research and looks like I'm just going to need to keep a few belts around... And comet seems to be the only way to go, I don't know what part number it is though... I called gopowersports and they said they don't know about Coleman. I also tried calling comet. The guy there had a lot of questions that I didn't know about, such as symmetrical versus asymmetrical and degree? All I can find is the length and width of the factory belt to compare to. If anybody knows what part number I'm looking for I'd sure appreciate it, as well as any other preemptive advice to keep this thing reliable for the kids..

My other question at this point is ( and again, I haven't even opened the crate I just got it home late last night) is there a way to adjust the max speed? Is it going to just be a throttle/governor screw, or is there a screw behind the pedal like some of the other models I've seen.

I would say OPEN the box and find out what you have to start with--a clutch or a torque converter?? We sure don't know since you can get either. If you got a t/c then it is asymmetric - flat side towards engine. In that case you should have a spare Comet belt to replace what Denny tells us is Yak hair and dried ear wax.

Throttle speed or a t/c, yes but if it is a clutch I wouldn't do it because you are going to ruin the clutch. Clutch likes one speed , full throttle so it can lock up and have a chance to cool down. When you restrict the throttle on a clutch set up it is not having a chance to get locked up to start to cool down it is a slip mode and it will get extremely hot and ruin the spring and bushing in a very short period of time. You can drive slow with a t/c and not do any damage to the unit, not so on a clutch.

Just food for thought.

The manual says torque converter, but here is what I can see..I haven't pulled the cover yet. Just had limited time/space where the kids aren't swarming...I'm keeping it in my shed and the kids get nosy. I'll have to pull the crate out to assemble it. There's no room in there.

You definitely have a torque converter on the unit and it is always good to have a spare belt. Best way to measure it before it is shredded is to have a cloth tape measure and wrap it around the OC (outside circumference) of the belt and get that measurement. The Comet bets are listed both ways (C to C -center to center distance between shafts and by OC). Where to you find a cloth tape measure --visit gramma, she has one in her sewing basket.) Kart racers use them to measure the circumference of a tire and they took gramma's.)

I really appreciate all your help. I just got the thing assembled yesterday and hopefully I can fill it with fluids and try it and give it a test run while they're at school tomorrow. Since it's a possibility, I definitely want to reduce the speed on it, at least until my little girl has it figured out. She's 7 and this is a giant step up from her power wheel that she had a couple of years ago. I probably should have got one of those mini trailmasters instead, but the Coleman was a decent (these days) deal @1299

Since it is a torque converter you can regulate the speed by having a loose throttle cable. Pulled enough through and lock it down to wear you feel the top speed you want for your child. It will not hurt the t/c. So when she start to twist the throttle there is no instant respond until she gets clost to the last part of the twist grip. Other might have other suggestions but this is the easiest to do.

Don't feel bad about getting a bigger or faster kart. They ( kids ) catch on so fast it will amaze you. Especially if she already has experience in a battery powered kitty car of some sorts. She understands the concept of gas and brake pedal, and that turning the steering causes a change in direction. You'll be feeding in more throttle travel sooner than you think.

The Comet spare belt you want is 217248A This is a series 30 belt which is asymmetrical, flat side towards the engine when you mount it.

I just ordered 203589A (immediately before seeing your post), I'll pick one of those up too, see which fits best, one's a little bit larger one's a little bit smaller

Hey, I recently just ordered a Coleman GK200 for my kiddos. I'm curious what your learned regarding the best belt option. Did either of the Comet belts referenced above (217248A & 203589A) work out?

I actually haven't had to swap it out yet. The factory belt has been a champ for us

Curious about the preferred belt. I was going to order a replacement now but I'll wait to confirm what belt it comes with.

Yes, he is 6. Between loosening the throttle and extending the pedals, he should be fine. I plan to ride along until I'm comfortable he can handle it by himself.
