Continuing to make progress. Made a hack halo today and did some more welding. So there a two schools of thought regarding halo bars.
One being the potential of banging yer head on the halo if ya get upside down. The other is the potential of debris intrusion into the cockpit, where ya want bars. A helmet is obviously mandatory either way still, we are going with the 2nd option. Rocks, or stumps or other debris is a bigger threat for unimproved tracks/trails.

When it gets too difficult to "get down" and back up bring the work up to ya.

I know, my welds look like shyt.
I'm struggling with some vision problems. I weld by the Braille method.

I've been looking at a different project, that I think is the epitome of classic Hackmanship. I've been wanting to build this for years. It keeps rising to the surface every now and then, but alas, I'm too old and tired. However I think one of the young'ns here should take this on.
My consultation services would be free to anyone willing. The only contractual obligation would be I get to drive it at least once.

I'm not going to lie that looks exactly like something I would build and use to drive my kids to school with, Who said backpack straps can't also be used as seat belts, besides my wife and the state of California and child protective services ?

Oh great, a blind guy building a buggy with a motorcycle engine. What could go wrong
You sound like my wife! Maybe it is best to be a blind crazy? apparantly the DMV in this state thinks so.
Anyone that has driven across the SW desert in excess 100MPH without the benefit of pavement under yer azz knows that a change occurs in the brain which leaves ya with a severe addiction. Ask WTR! That desire to do it again, never leaves, it can not be cured or reprogrammed. Regardless of age and accompanying risks and those mysterious things called "better Judgement" or common sense, the need to speed is permanently imbedded in your DNA. The same occurs in any go fast sport though the threshold varies with the operator and the equipent. Pavement pounders have it but the numbers are quite different, mainly those that have a $ prefix.
I have it bad. I know better, but I'm old enough to not care. I gotta go one more time. May very well never happen, but the desire never goes away. Get yer mind outa the gutter Denny.
This is the most fun project I have ever done.

That looks like a lot of fun! if I only was younger and richer.
This is my yard kart. for hauling things around the MTL campus. Wife is embarrassed when I drive it around. Hey, it does the same thing as a $20K gator, but cost about $500. And has much more class.

I got to see some "legends" sprint cars today at the car show. Man I want to go take one for a few laps. I didn't know anything about them.
Yamaha 890 to 950cc engine. 4 wheel drive.
Yeah that desire to go fast never gets old.
Im keeping my eye out for a big bike engine. I want to build a crosskart too.

I found a source for engines. The guy is a legit dealer and has 40+ bikes in stock.
l like to shop in the "missing title" section. Any bike $400. There are 650s 750s, big twins and inlines. Going by prices on farcebook, thats a bargain.

ive seen those legend cars run, but this CK stuff looks like too much fun.
if l can get this done and watch the youngns drive it, that will be good 'nuff.

your gonna have to grind and weld a few more tabs.
And the engine will have to come out maybe twice more
I'm sure you are right on both counts. I'm hoping yer wrong on the last one.
i using cheap paint this time. If l have to grind some off and re paint, no big deal!
The engine goes in and out through the top, the exhaust wont fit through the top with the engine. At a certain point it won't come out without major de construction.
Yeah,itsa convoluted plan as ususl.

I tried that. It won't work. The way the bends are and the angle at the head, it would need 18 inches more space to clear the firewall (coming soon). Then it points at about 75 degrees from horizontal.
