I'm restoring a Manco 415 kart missing many pieces of the drive wheel setup. What is the purpose of the brake band clip on a 4" brake band for a Manco Kart? I'm guessing that it keeps the band centered on the brake drum. Many of the videos I see show the brake drum mounted flush to the sprocket, which would cause the clip to rub against it. Can I just grind off that side of the clip? Also, should the band be mounted with the clip side up or down, or does it matter?
Haven't bought the motor yet, but most likely The HF Predator 212. Once I put the clutch on and mount the engine, I'll probably figure out all the correct spacing for the drum and sprocket.
Thanks
