Hello all,

My name is Anthony and I'm new to go karts and the forum. My family recently inherited a Yerf Dog Spiderbox, I believe. Not entirely sure what the exact model is to be honest. It sat in the open for years stalled out and needs a motor replacement according to the previous owners. It has seen better days for sure but it looks like a good project for me and the boys. So we want to know what is all needed to take on this endeavor. I have some experience in cars/engine building and electrical so the work itself isn't a concern. We just want to do it "right" the first time. For starters, the new engine.. I've been researching a few from Northern Tools, specifically the DuroMax line. I'm trying to budget a max of $500 for the engine. Get as much bang for buck and warranty. After that I'm quite oblivious as to what would be needed/modified to get it functional. Torque converters, axles, etc... Hopefully the pictures are good enough for everyone's eyes. Any and all help is greatly appreciated in advance.

I was even curious if a company sold turn key style packages for projects like mine.

Well obviously it's a Yerf Dog Spider-Box. Whatta name!

What I would do is start another thread in the main Go Kart Discussion area as that is where the bulk of the traffic and attention is focused on. Try to revitalize the original engine by all means necessary and you should try to see if it will turn over (rotate) or if it has compression and spark.

Weather is not kind at all to go karts and buggies so I would advise some garage space for it, a carport or a dedicated tarp and not one of those cheap, poly blue wonders.

We have part-time moderators here at this stage and they spend the bulk of their time cleaning up the spam from Nigerian princes, so it is doubtful they will move it for such a minor infraction. Anyway, it is still an intro and telling us why you're here, etc etc. and not asking direct tech questions and so forth.

Noted. I'll see about starting a new one in the proper place when the time is right. I wanted to see if this one turns over but the way it was buried in debris and in the elements for however long had me saying "New and bigger". I'll be purchasing a battery to check this out still.

Welcome to the forum. That Spider Box is one of the nicest 2 seater made. I am not a big fan of the GY-6 style engine that's on there. Your comment about the
DuroMax is the way to go. (in my opinion ). The predator 420 is also a lot of bang for the buck. They are all made in China so it makes no difference. For the predator line of engines ( and probably the D Max as well ) there is an aftermarket speed parts availability that would almost rival that of the small block Chevy. A big block ( 390-420-440 cc in our lingo ) and a 40 series torque converter and that thing will perform good enough to put a smile on your kids face.

Thank you so much. We're actually settling on a 420 Duromax and the 40 series as of today harhar. Settled on the wheel setup from GoPowerSports too. What I wanted to do was call about the axle length suggested. That's for another thread. To put it midly and like Denny said, I fell in the "Rabbit Hole".
