Runaway Manco Dingo IX

I just picked up this Manco Dingo IX yesterday for $150 which to me is a heck of a price, I was told it was leaking from the carb, I found out the fuel line hose clamp is stretched out and it's leaking from the carburetor fuel inlet line. I fixed the leaking issue after rebuilding and cleaning the carburetor out. Now it runs which is great, but had my 6x6 not been in front of it, I'd have had to go chase the kart down it wanted to go, not overly fast but fast enough and with enough power I couldn't pull it back easily if at all. I want to say it's an issue with the throttle the throttle does work, but it seems to idle too high, even with the idle screw backed out completely it still idles higher than it should in my opinion. I believe I hooked the throttle back up completely, however the throttle on the carb seems to swing back and forth easy and is held open a good bit due to the spring on the throttle arm. I'll enclose pictures to show what I mean, also the governor spring or at least what I believe is the governor spring rests on the engine. Any help is appreciated, I want to get riding this kart soon as possible.

Is there any way that you can attach a spring to the carburetor to pull the butterfly shut when you let off of the gas? As it is right now idling too high, can you manually close to carburater any more to slow it down?
Also, welcome to the forum. That is MORE than a good deal at $150.

Thank you glad to be here.

If I pull the throttle back in the closed position by hand the engine will shut off with the idle screw all the way out, so to me it's just a throttle issue, I was just thinking about maybe I could add a spring to pull the throttle closed so it will idle fine, and will fix the issue. I'll have to visit the local hardware store tomorrow and grab a spring or two and try it out, or grab one off the many lawnmower engines I have. I don't know if the carb is supposed to have a spring built in where the throttle shaft is or not, but hopefully that fixes it.

Also it definitely an awesome deal, the tires on it don't even look like they've been ridden on they still have the vent spews all over them. The back ones look even more newer than the front ones.

Technically speaking, it is supposed to have a throttle return spring so "previous owner Bubba" may have screwed things up as they always seem to do. They usually have a return spring on the engine and a return spring down on the pedal as well and the whole assembly and cable should be feely moving and lubed on occasion. Sorry if I am stating the obvious.

What engine is it?

It is a Vanguard 9HP, more specifically it is the Vanguard 185437-0087-01.

T C stands for torque converter. Hard to tell for certain, but from the large size of the guard on your engine it looks like you might have one. If not then it is a centrifugal clutch.

OH okay, it does have a torque converter with the belt and everything, I'll take a Pic of it.

Okay, forgot to take a picture of the torque converter however I did add a spring to act as a return spring for the throttle, and now it does want to idle instead of trying to drive forward, I think I did too strong of a spring however had to stretch it out a little bit and placement is not ideal where I have it hooked to. I was gonna take it for a test drive and the engine quit on me, couldn't get it started again, then pulled the plug and looks like it was building up carbon for a bit before I got it. Btw does anyone know the stock carb configuration for the mixture screw and whatever else I need to adjust, I tried like 2 turns out on what I believe is the mixture screw up on top of the carb at the front near the throttle door. I took the spark plug a Delco 4, and cleaned off all the black carbon build up that was on it and it did start up and run again but then I hit the kill switch because it started to Rev a bit higher and go forward due to adjusting the spring still. But tried to start it again and now it won't start go figure, I'm not sure if the plug went bad or not on it now, there was a tiny bit of gas on the end when I checked it a second time.

I’m just tryin ta help you out. My middle name is Dennis.
Oh okay, my middle name is Dean. I wonder if the engine has the wrong spark plug in it, it has a ACDELCO 4 spark plug in it, and the manual from what I find shows the part number as 792015.
