People have absolutely no idea the monumental day we have had.. The new pope.. Getting this forum back.. 20%+ jump in stocks taking me out of the deeper red and into the green for the first time in months… What else happened?

i wasnt even aware this forum was dying, is it really that bad?

Slowly dying over the years. I don't know the stats but I think the DIYGK forum heyday was in the early 2000's ( that would be 20+ years ago or so) and it has dwindled and tapered off slowly but significantly. Is it due to BS social media and more advanced video games and/or video game culture? People sitting on their duffs all day and all night instead of wrenching and riding..? It IS neat though to see the level of engagement in the older threads here.

Fecesbook Groups and other social media have certainly stolen the forum thunder perhaps, but ugh, it's not vastly better on social media I don't think, it's just "convenient" for the phone crowd. I've seen some of those Groups and posting on a FB Group just seems like utter garbage because it is geared for a 5 minute attention span and endless scrolling. The endless scrolling and clicking you have to do to find your desired content (or having to click to see all replies over and over and over again) gives me the blahs.

I agree. The forum was at its busiest late 2000's to about 2015 when i started seeing a drop off. I myself and not on the forum as much as i used to be. I used to make stuff for my daughter who is now out of the house.

I do think that the youth of today aren't as outdoorsy as they used to be

As part of the youth of nowadays lol I think its more about creativity and attainability, people are so used to seeing such crazy stuff on the internet that doing their own small version at home seems almost even silly, or even out of reach, not to talk about how everyone just wants to copy off someone else and cant come up with their own ideas since they are all so used to being fed the ideas.

Ezcome-ezgo was talking about the forum issues where no one could see or reply to a post but you could create a post/thread. However, it turned into the life-blood of the forum discussion.

Most youth, I'll wager, only have experience with pixel karts a la Mario Kart. Why get on a noisy, smelly kart when you can effortlessly race pixel karts in an endless game, with thrills and spills and multiplayers? Multiplayers in in-real-life karting is quite the proposition unless they go to a fun park but we're not about concession karts here, put private ownership.

Fortunately for us, at least the buy-in price for a video game "crackbox" console (plus 1 game) and a used Carter Brothers rolling frame (Carter Brothers seem to be the most common), $100 Predator 212cc, chain, clutch, sprockets and sundry is an almost equal 1:1 comparison....

My parents - maybe my generation of parents - were less "attentive"

I see what you mean. Nowadays, parents are helicopter parents and modern kids see "way too much of them" because they're inside all the time, even though most parents both work.

It'd be like, no TV, no internet (except for school), no PORN!, no hell phones until they're 18 but I'd supply bicycles, mini bikes, go karts, dirt bikes maybe, just so they'll learn some mechanical skills have fun, stay out of the house and not turn into a electronic screen zombie.

I never had a cell phone until I left home for college. It seems now a days kids learn to use phones before they can talk.
